According to a company spokesman contacted by phone by GGRAcia on Wednesday, 100 such workers have applied to participate. The plan ran from September 23 to October 5.
The people involved were offered what the company called basic severance pay and additional compensation.
The plan was operated due to the casino's business deterioration “due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has been going on for about two years,” the spokesman said.
The Jeju Tourism Organization union's Landing Casino branch, a local labor organization, has complained that the plan amounts to “firing.”
But the process was “fair restructuring,” according to the Landing International development officer.
On Tuesday, several Jeju media reported that the union held press conferences on Oct. 1 and 19, respectively, complaining that the management was forcing employees to retire.
According to data released by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in May this year, sales of Landing Casino in 2020 were 42.35 billion won, down 32.2% from 62.45 billion won achieved in 2019. Use slightly different accounting methods from the listed operators.
Net loss of landing international development for the full year of 2020 was about HK$2.12 billion ($272.7 million at the current exchange rate).
According to the ministry, the 2020 Landing Casino received 55,075 unique guests, down 35.9% year-on-year from 85,884 visitors in 2019.
