As we all know, Proton X50 has received 5 stars in the ASEAN NCAP test. The Proton X50 based on Geely Binyue has the same structure as Geely Binyue, making this test the first test of the right-wing Geely Binyue drive.

However, not all 5 stars are the same. If you look closely at the ASEAN NCAP website, the score of the Proton X50 is lower than the brand new Perodua Aruz and new Honda City 2020.

1. Honda City 2020-86.54

2.Perodua Aruz 2019-86.49

3. Proton X50 2020-84.26

All three vehicles were evaluated using the latest 2017-2020 scoring method (due to different methods, it is not possible to compare test results before 2017). This raises a question: With the help of the Perodua ASA 2.0 driver assistance system, did the Proton X50, fighter cockpit, and complete ADAS kit lose out to Perodua Aruz?

The reason is simple. According to the function, the NCAP score structure has different considerations, including the safety functions provided in all variants. Perodua Aruz comes standard with 6 airbags, while the entry version (bottom) of the Proton X50 is only equipped with 4 airbags.

However, the Proton X50 scored better than Perodua Aruz in side impact protection, with a maximum score of 16.00 points. Perodua Aruz only scored 14.64 points. Perodua Aruz received an additional bonus of 2 points for head protection, because curtain airbags are provided as standard.

Seat belt reminders are also one of the scoring standards. Perodua Aruz's front and rear passengers are equipped with SBR, while the Proton X50 only provides SBR for front passengers. Perodua Aruz does not have a blind spot warning function (but on Toyota Rush), so there is no score. The blind spot warning function of Proton X50 has almost no imprints because it is not a standard function of all models.

Of course, between the blind spot warning function and the seat belt reminder, seat belt warning is a higher priority, until the blind spot warning function scores insufficient for Proton to overcome the mark loss.

As for the Honda City in 2020, the model tested by ASEAN NCAP is a 1.0-liter VTEC turbocharged unit of Thailand specifications, which is not provided by Honda's sensor technology. Therefore, the score is not applicable to our market, but it is still a good reference.

In addition to the problem of not providing Honda's sensing function, the performance of Honda City's accident protection structure is still better than Perodua Aruz or Proton X50.

Therefore, Honda City is a very good choice.
