When many casual observers think of the Surrey town of Weybridge, they might be immediately put in mind of the settlement’s long history stretching as far back as the 7th century, or even the famous and wealthy people – even billionaires – who have called this part of South East England home.

But it’s one thing to know about some of the “stereotypes” that surround the notion of living in Weybridge, and quite another thing to have a sense of what it is truly like to reside here.

For this blog post, we’re most concerned with the latter, rather than the former. So, let’s take a look at some of the things about living in Weybridge that you might not have fully considered, or even know about.

Weybridge has an excellent retail mix

Is this pretty commuter town just outside London the first place you would consider for a local shopping expedition? It may not be, but you might want to revisit that notion.

With its mix of more ‘useful’ everyday stores – such as Waitrose – and quirkier independent shops on Baker Street, as well as events such as Weybridge Farmers’ Market, there are many more places to shop in this town of just 15,000 people, than you might expect.

The town lives motorsport even more than you realise

It only takes a small amount of research into living in Weybridge, to realise that the history of this part of Surrey is irrevocably bound with the formative development of British motorsport. It was near here in the early 20th century that the first purpose-built ‘banked’ motor racing circuit, Brooklands, was built, with this serving as the site of the first British Grand Prix in 1926.

But with Brooklands not having hosted an actual race since 1939, is Brooklands a mere ‘museum’ to motorsport? Not quite – the circuit continues to provide a distinctive venue for events related to vintage cars, motorcycles, and other aspects of transport.

Don’t forget, too, that living in Weybridge also means being close to other motoring-related attractions such as the London Bus Museum and Mercedes-Benz World – the latter, for instance, being a focal point for thrilling driving experiences and corporate events with a difference.

There’s a greater diversity of property here than you might think

While the interest that the aforementioned billionaires have in Weybridge means there isn’t really an upper limit with regard to the sheer opulence to be found in properties here, there is actually a broader choice of types of homes here than you may initially imagine.

You may be reading this as a young professional couple with an interest in renting a one-bedroom or two-bedroom flat to provide yourselves with a convenient base for commuting into London, or you might be a more established family or even an investor.

Regardless, you may be surprised by the choice of available property meeting your requirements and expectations in this tranquil town near the confluence of the River Thames and the River Wey, ranging from alluring Edwardian semis to quaint cottages and 1960s and ’70s-built flats.

There you go – three aspects of buying, renting and/or living in Weybridge, that you might not have been entirely aware of or informed about, even if you have already been browsing the available property stock here.
