Going to work can be one of the great joys in life. This is largely due to the fact that work provides a platform for individuals to showcase their education, experience and inherent skills.

However, through one circumstance or another, turning up to work with a smile can sometimes feel like a bridge too far. Rather than sitting at your desk wishing the hours away, try to reframe your thinking.

By employing different techniques in order to stay positive, your whole outlook appears brighter. Not only do the hands on the clock move faster, but you also become more efficient and effective.

Infusing work with positivity

Going to work everyday, whether it be an office job or a remote job, can be an emotional rollercoaster at times. On some days, you may feel like your job is quite simply the best in the world.

On other days, you may be feeling a little down. This could be because your company is undergoing cut backs or because your favourite co-worker left for a new job. Another reason you might be feeling negatively? Discrimination.

While incredibly damaging, discrimination is becoming increasingly prevalent in modern working environments. In fact, a survey conducted in order to look into ageing in the workforce found that nine in 10 believe that ageism is prevalent in the workforce

Such figures are incredibly disheartening. However, it’s important to remember that work can always be infused with elements of positivity. This doesn’t mean ignoring the negatives or the setbacks. Instead, it means using these disappointments as motivation.

How to stay positive at work

By approaching your work each day with a positive attitude, workplace facets can be viewed through new, realistic lenses. For some however, this can be easier said than done. With this in mind, there are tips you can employ to help remain positive at work.

Tip #1: Celebrate big and little wins

A great tip for infusing your work with positivity is to celebrate both the big wins and the little wins. Oftentimes, the big wins don’t come around that often. As such, it can be easy to feel disheartened and underappreciated.

By taking the time to celebrate the small wins, you are essentially rewarding yourself and the team. This acknowledgement will go a long way towards boosting both morale and productivity levels. Infusing the working environment with positivity.

Tip #2: Find the fun side

There are always reasons why we choose to take a job offer. These reasons often centre around finding an aspect of the job fun. So, when negativity starts to creep in, take some time to do your favourite task, whether that be researching or interacting with clients.

If the fun side doesn’t seem to be giving you pleasure anymore, consider creating fun incentives. This may mean that you get to talk to a colleague once you’ve completed a certain task. It might also mean that you get to go for a quick break once a job is finished.

Tip #3: Remember to take breaks

Working day in and day out can begin to feel draining. Rather than indulging these bad thoughts, get up and get out of the office. Humans were not made to sit and work at a desk all day.

By going for a walk, be it to the local cafe or around the block, you give yourself the space needed to gain perspective. This little break can work wonders on your mindset. Giving you the boost needed to tackle the rest of the day.

Tip #4: Decorate your workspace

When all else fails, surround yourself with the things you love. A family photograph, a poster featuring your favourite colour or even a piece of memorabilia can integrate nicely into a workstation.

By surrounding yourself with objects you love, you can look to these objects for an injection of positivity and happiness. All of which can help you focus on the good, even when items on your to do list seem to be expanding.

Tip #5: Place importance on communication

Another way to stay positive at work is to place importance on communication between coworkers. If you are connected and communicating with your fellow colleagues, there is a certain sense of camaraderie

By having people to interact and collaborate with, you can draw strength and inspiration. You can even have a laugh or two along the way. All of which helps to keep the workplace positive and morale high.

Approaching work with positivity

Arriving at work to an impending disaster or a desk full of paperwork can feel quite overwhelming. It may even cast a negative shadow over the day, clouding your every interaction and action.

Rather than spending the day suffering, approaching work with a positive mindset is key. While this can be easier said than done, employing a few key tips when you start to feel overwhelmed can work wonders. Helping you stay positive and productive at work.
