The second-largest city in Australia and Oceania, Melbourne is a tourist hotspot with more than 14 million visitors each year. People come from all parts of Australia and the world to experience the sight and sounds of Victoria’s capital from visiting the Melbourne Zoo to snapping photos at Federation Square.

The Melbourne Zoo

Located 4 kilometers north of the city center, the Melbourne Zoo opened its gates in 1862. Today, there are more than 5,000 animals, i.e. 320 different animal species. The Zoo sits inside the Royal Park and you can reach it by railway or tram. On 22 hectares, you can see various species, from lions and elephants to gorillas and orangutans.

The Queen Victoria Market

One of the biggest sights of Melbourne, Queen Victoria Market was opened in 1878. Ever since it has been a known landmark of the central business district (CBD). Queen Vic or Vic markets, as the locals call it, is one of the largest open-air markets in this part of the world, covering seven hectares. The vast majority of the tens of millions of visitors we mentioned in the introduction list the Market as a site they visited.

Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium

While in the CBD, you should check out the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium. As its name suggests, the aquarium is home to more than 10,000 animals divided into more than 550 species, predominantly from the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic.

Since the year 2000, visitors van visit endangered species such as the grey nurse shark, bamboo sharks, sea turtles, and seadragons. The four levels of the vast aquarium are ideal for snapping a selfie!

A visit to the brothel

A short trip to Southern Melbourne brings you in the vicinity of the city's licensed brothels. This practice is perfectly legal, so why not try a Melbourne brothel while on vacation. Asia brothels have quite popular recently, with ladies from China, Korea, Japan, and Thailand available for company.

Cityscape from the Eureka Tower

If you enjoy panoramas and cityscapes, then you simply must climb the 298 meters tall Eureka Tower. Located in the Southbank precinct, the skyscraper features a skydeck that has been welcoming visitors since 2006. The residential tower is the third tallest building in the country, so the high admission price for the skydeck is worth the money.

Strolling through Southgate

The Aquarium we mentioned earlier is located on the banks of the Yarra River, in the Southgate District. In fact, there is a walkway along the river that allows you to explore the most popular Melbourne sights on foot.

The area features a huge number of restaurants and bars offering both national and international foods and drinks. The riverside promenade is ideal for late evening walks to imbibe in the sights and sounds of Melbourne.

Federation Square: The heart of the city

You don’t have to walk far to reach Federation Square, a popular arts venue on the edge of the CBD. The public square was created some two decades ago and has since served as a stage for various cultural events. Its location, near the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Street, places it near railway lines, making the square easy to reach.

There are various arts instructions located there, such as the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the Ian Potter Centre. The square is fully paved with few trees, featuring a glass-walled atrium, shielding visitors and passersby from the elements.

Melbourne is an exciting city and if you come and visit it, you are bound to have fun in more than one way. In fact, the 7 sights listed above are just a small portion of what’s Victoria’s capital has to offer to the average vacationer.
