Every one of us could be a victim of an attack – whether physical or mental. Some forms of attack are too subtle for people to notice, but if you start to feel uncomfortable, your body tells you that something is not correct. If we experience any of the following warning signs, it is essential to act swiftly and not allow ourselves to be harmed so easily.

1) GUT INSTINCT

This is your most important weapon; it is your internal alarm. Don't underestimate the power of your sixth sense; whether your intuition tells you so or evidence suggests that someone is observing you or feels like there's a bad vibe coming from the person who approaches, trusts your gut.

The subconscious part of our minds are, for the most part, spot-on, to be sure, so don't worry about judging other people in this situation or any other for that matter – listen to what your gut tells you. The subconscious mind is an excellent judge of character and will always address potential threats by sending an increasingly large signal to your conscious self that something isn't right. If a bit of thing is wrong, it'll let you know with physical sensations; if there's nothing out of place and everything checks out a fine, then no signals will be sent, thus subsiding the worrisome feeling.

2) BODY LANGUAGE

Noticing the body language of people around you is essential, which works closely alongside gut instinct. If you spot any peculiar body language that feels out of place, weird or just plain wrong from what you anticipated or expected to encounter, then pay very close attention. It's far more challenging for people to hide their true intentions through body language than initially thought.

3) CONCEALED HAND(S)

Do you see their hands? Are both palms facing out fully towards the camera, and are their fingers in full view of your webcam? If not, ask them to show you the back of their hands or hold up one hand with all fingers visible. Remember, if they're hiding either of those anywhere, it could potentially be used to display a weapon such as a weapon, gun, bomb or another dangerous device!

4) CLEARING HANDS

Another way to tell if someone is about to attack you is by holding their hands. This gesture can mean that the person with their hand in this position is preparing to defend themselves by swinging or fighting back. Perhaps they are zipping up a phone, pulling up their pants or dropping an item onto the floor.

5) ABNORMAL EYE MOVEMENT

Some people say your eyes are the window to your soul, so why not use that to assess whether or not someone is an “easily” exploitable person? As a rule of thumb, it's best to avoid strangers trying to approach you – especially when they come unusually close. If someone is already close enough for you to see their eyes and then to attempt to strike up a conversation with you (or worse), then chances are they might be working in cahoots with a second person (or even more). If you notice this happening, try yelling out and making other people aware at the same time as you quickly distance yourself from the situation.

6) ASKING YOU A QUESTION

One of the ways that attackers may approach you is by initiating a conversation about something or asking for your time. This could be asking for directions, telling you a story about losing something, or even just asking what time it is, which seems like such a small, innocent thing to do in general. They're trying to “interview” you, being friendly by this strange means so that they can get into your head and understand if you'll be an easy target for their attack.

7) DISTURBED NATURAL FLOW OF MOVEMENT

The flow of nature is never broken. Pay attention to some flaws or irregularities that impede the natural flow of things that seem out of place to you. These things might be subtle but could trigger something deeply-rooted in you based on your gut instinct and awareness. They usually occur where there is a lack of harmony, i.e., a crowd or a gathering of individuals among many others present who doesn't quite fit – it's unnatural how they are behaving.

It's good to count on the support of family and friends, but you also have another source of positive influence in your future that can help you get where you need to go – your subconscious. Trusting yourself and having faith in your intuition and gut instinct can lead you towards what may seem like unachievable goals. Just remember; do something about it!

You can protect yourself from all this by enrolling yourself in kids' self-defence classes or self-defence classes.
