Toyota Fortuner facelift for the Indonesian market seems to be delayed. The reason is that PT Toyota Astra Motor looks confused answering media questions regarding the launch schedule.
PT Toyota Astra Motor had mentioned that it would launch several models during 2020. Although they did not officially announce, Toyota did not deny that one of the models to be launched was the Fortuner facelift.
But lately Toyota even looked upset when confirmed about the launch schedule of the Fortuner facelift. Domestic sales conditions are the reason for the turmoil.
“We are waiting for the Indonesian market to begin to improve and be sustainable. Of course we do not want the market to grow positively only in June. But it will continue. Even though we can launch it, it might stimulate sales growth,” said Dimas Aska as Head of Media Relations of PT TAM (7/20).
But clearly the agenda for the launch of the Fortuner facelift remains in TAM's important record. “But because of the situation like this (Read: Car sales are not yet normal) so we ourselves do not know when the launch date is,” Dimas added via telephone lines.
Hopefully the Indonesian domestic market can recover soon and be on cue for Toyota to refresh the Fortuner. But if the recovery time is long, Dimas will not dismiss if the launch takes place next year.
For information, the Fortuner facelift in Thailand at the beginning of last month has a fresh design on the grille, bumper, and the design of its LED lights.
In the capital city of Bangkok, Fortuner has one variant with a new name called Legender. This variant has new features which are quite sophisticated.
The most highlighted feature is the Toyota Active Sense. If in Indonesia, the new radar-based feature is in the Toyota Alphard, which includes the Pre Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Reportedly the price of this Fortuner facelift will be hoisted up. Although until now there has been no leakage, the ladder frame SUV will still be favored by Indonesian consumers.
