Travel restrictions for Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Turkey-updated 12 October, 2020

The international land, sea and air borders of Turkey are available to foreign travellers who comply with the laws of Turkish visa.

Subject to consultation with the Ministry of Health, commercial flights will resume on a country-by – country basis. For the latest updates on the status of your flight, contact your airline.

Airline passengers must wear face masks, full airline passenger locator forms and, upon arrival, undergo COVID-19 screening.

Temperature tests are included in the medical screening, and anyone showing COVID-19 symptoms will undergo a PCR examination.

Check to see if before traveling to Turkey you need a visa, and apply here online.

Who will go to Turkey and travel?

From 12 June onwards, Turkey reopened its land, sea and air borders to all foreign visitors. You can be of any nationality and travel to Turkey as long as you comply with Turkish immigration laws.

You can Turkey visit visa, with an e-visa, or a visa sticker, depending on your country of origin and the purpose of the visit. Find a complete list here and here of visa policies. You just need to fill out the passenger locator form on arrival, and you can tour the country during your stay without the need for quarantine, regardless of your place of arrival.

Passengers from many countries were previously prohibited from crossing Turkey's international borders on 26 July. Though restrictions may have been lifted in some areas, international tourists (such as Iran and Turkey) are still banned from some of these countries until September or later. In several of these locations, flights are temporarily suspended or have yet to start.

Advice on General Travel

To exercise a high degree of caution at all times is our general advice to Irish citizens in Turkey or those who wish to fly to Turkey. All protests and demonstrations should be avoided and time spent in crowded areas , especially those frequented by foreigners, accompanied by local security advice, and local media monitoring should be reduced. You can also formulate a personal security strategy and/or review it.

Six months of passport validity from the date of entry into Turkey is required. As you might be denied entry, please check your passport in plenty of time before travel. If you do not fulfil the entry requirements, the Embassy can not interfere on your behalf. Please use our Online Passport Renewal System if your passport needs to be renewed. Please refer to the visa and tourist residence permit requirements for additional details.

After hitting Turkey, do I need to quarantine myself?

Currently, no quarantine conditions exist for those travelling to Turkey. At the departure terminal, you will need to undergo a temperature check and health monitoring. You will have to perform a swab examination if you exhibit signs of the illness. In laboratories inside the airport premises, the health officials at the airport test the samples and produce the findings within five hours. It charges a fee of TL 250 or USD 33.

Is travelling to Turkey safe?

A Safe Tourism Certification Program, a collective initiative by the Ministry of Transport, Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been adopted by the government. Since April, international organisations have accredited airports, air carriers and other means of transport within the country, as well as bars , restaurants and accommodation facilities that meet standard health and hygiene requirements.
