BEGINNING SANSKRIT – SENTENCES & COMPREHENSION
This course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to gain a greater amount of experience with samyukta-akSharANi or combined letters. The course encourages students to engage in both simple reading and discussion, with the goal of building their skills in this area. One of the unique aspects of this course is the creation of brief tales through the combination of words and phrases.
Through a series of exercises and activities, students will be introduced to the concept of samyukta-akSharANi and will have ample opportunity to practice this skill. They will learn about the different types of combined letters and how they can be used to create new words and phrases. Students will also be encouraged to read texts that use samyukta-akSharANi, such as poetry and literature, in order to gain a deeper understanding of this technique.
In addition to developing their skills in samyukta-akSharANi, students will also have the opportunity to engage in discussions and share their thoughts on various topics. The course is designed to be a collaborative learning experience, where students can learn from each other and build on their collective knowledge. Through these discussions, students will be able to explore different perspectives and gain a greater understanding of the world around them.
This course is designed for students who are interested in learning Devanagari script, which is used to write many Indian languages such as Sanskrit, Hindi, and Marathi. The course is structured as one quarter lasting 10 weeks, with 1.5 hours of instruction per week.
The course is structured in a unique and innovative way using the curriculum and textbooks designed by Samskrita Bharati USA (SBusa.org). The material covered in this course is based on the SB – USA – published book, “PRAPADYA,” which is augmented with other appropriate course content.
The course is designed to cater to beginner-level students who want to start listening, writing, and reading Devanagari script. It will help students learn the basics of the script and build a strong foundation for future studies.
The curriculum includes a streamlined set of exercises that are easy to follow and help students learn the script quickly. The course also includes listening and reading comprehension exercises to help students build their vocabulary and improve their reading skills.
At the end of the course, students will take an exam during the 11th week to assess their knowledge of Devanagari script. The exam is designed to test the student's comprehension of the script and their ability to read and write it accurately.
The course is taught by experienced teachers who are well-versed in the Devanagari script and have years of experience teaching it to students. They will guide students through the course and provide them with feedback and support to help them succeed.
