Mother's Day is approaching fast, and we all have just a few days to prepare for the celebrations. I believe you all have some plans in your mind that you would execute with utmost dedication so as to pour the light of joy and happiness in your Mom's life on a special day. Well, we all know the basics of why we celebrate Mother's Day, and that's more than enough. But still, we should be more informed.
Mother's Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family, as well as Motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May.
If we talk about how the observation of Mother's Day started, two major incidents from the United States are famous around the world. Well, both the incidents are real, but the only fight is to have the credit.
The informal origin of Mother's Day in the United States dates back to the 19th century. In the years before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia helped start “Mothers' Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to care for their children properly.
That was the first-ever effort to begin something specifically for Mothers, but somehow it never got the deserved recognition. But it is still known today as a brave effort to put in. After many years, another movement started, which resulted in the official announcement of observing a special day to celebrate Motherhood.
And that's how it started:
‘The official Mother's Day holiday arose in the 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mother's 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother's Day as a way of honouring the sacrifices mothers made for their children'.
So, Mother's Day that we celebrate is there on the calendar due to the efforts of two brave women who choose to step-up for all. And from the first observation of Mother's Day to till now, what changed is the way of celebrating. There were not many resources back then and fewer parties were held irrespective of the current time where we all have such resources to celebrate the sacrifices of Mothers in festive like celebrations.
What I personally believe and implement too, as the perfect celebration is to be a helping hand in performing the daily household chores with my mother. And that celebration is continuous and occasional. The gifts and the parties will surely bring a smile on your Mom's face, and that's great. But you should keep on finding ways to make her smile because that's when the real meaning of celebrating Motherhood will be defined properly. Along with the continuous efforts that I just stated above, I plan to order two Mothers Day cakes (one for the day and one for the night) for the celebration.
I repeat “HELP YOUR MOM” to celebrate and salute Mother's and not just Mother's Day.
