Anyone coming into the community of vaping will be introduced to so many new things all at once. There will be new terminology, vape juices, mods, kits, tanks, and much more. One of the essential parts of vaping that you should know about is vape coils. In this blog, we will talk about what vape coils are, how they are relevant, and whether they should be replaced or not.

Whether it’s a Drag Pro device or a SMOK device, every vape has a coil in it. That is how it burns the vape liquid and produces vapor. But how does it all work? Take a look:

A Look Into Vape Coils

What Is A Coil?

A coil is, as the name suggests, a spiral-shaped wire that is fitted into your e-cig or vape device. The place it’s fitted into is called an atomizer head, and it has the wicking material inserted into it, which is soaked in e-liquid.

When you take a drag or push a button to take a hit, the battery heats the coil up until it starts to burn the saturated wick. This burning produces vapor and flavor that every vaper experiences. The vapor travels up through the pod and through the mouthpiece for you to inhale. The process is that simple.

But since the coil is being heated, it is usually made from conductive metal. However, the exact kind of metal depends upon the power of the vape. The most common metal is stainless steel, which most coils are made of.

Coils either come pre-made. But vape enthusiasts, especially those involved in sub-ohm vaping, like to make their own. They purchase wires and shape them by hand to make them into a coil. They also fit the wick into the coil by hand too. Then they fit the coils into the atomizer heads to get the vape going.

But, mostly, people prefer to buy pre-made coils because they think the hassle just isn’t worth it. It depends upon personal preference.

What Are Atomizer Heads?

There is a distinct difference between atomizer heads and coils. A coil is just a spiral-shaped piece of metal, whereas atomizer heads are the total package. They are pre-made, and they contain the wick, coil, and casing all ready to just fit into your vape device. All you have to do is fit the atomizer head onto your device, fit the pod, fill it with your favorite e-juice and start vaping.

Many brands sell replacement atomizers for easy replacement for when your coil does eventually burn out or if it unfortunately breaks.

What Are Ohms?

Ohm is the unit of resistance. Every coil has an Ohm value, and it depends upon the material that the coil is made from. Generally, the value ranges from 0.1 Ohms to 3 Ohms. The higher the Ohm value, the less e-juice is used, but that has the caveat of producing fewer clouds and flavor.

The lower the Ohm value, the better it is for flavor and cloud production. Any coil with an Ohm value less than 1 Ohm is a sub-ohm coil. And those who use such coils are called sub-ohm vapers.

Sub-ohm vaping is perfect for the production of immense, thick clouds of vapor. But if you are a beginner, then it is a good idea to start with coils with a higher Ohm value and start reducing from there as you get more experienced.

Do I have to replace the coil?

Vape coils don't last forever, unfortunately. They have a lifespan. The exact lifespan of a vape coil can't really be predicted as it depends upon multiple factors, including how much you are using the vape. Heavy vapers have to replace their vape coils once every couple of weeks, while those who use their vapes less can last a month or more without having to replace their coils.

But it is quite easy to replace coils, as all you have to do is pop the old one out and put the new one in. You just have to make sure that you are buying a vape coil that is compatible with your vape device.
