Digital communications have some benefits over analog ones, such as the ability to deploy error correction in the signal to help recovery in noisy signal environments. They also make better use of the radio spectrum.
Digital communications offer improvements in signal delivery to areas with more challenging reception conditions, such as those where signals are distorted or blocked by hills or tall structures. Broadcast Infrastructure method, known by radio and television broadcasters as “Single Frequency Network” (SFN) or by Land Mobile Radio (LMR) operators as “Simulcast,” enhances signal reception, permits lower power repeaters, and uses less radio or television spectrum.
