Overhead crane:

The cranes which move above the head at a particular height with electrical supply are known as overhead cranes. This crane is mostly used in industrial sectors. The overhead cranes are controlled by remote control. And the remote control can be either wired or can be wireless. Both can be used for overhead cranes. Now days mostly used to manage overhead cranes are wireless and known as wireless remote control for overhead crane.

Wired communication vs Wireless communication:

  • Wired communication:

Pendant push-button communication is based on the use of multi-core copper wires to transmit information. When the operator presses the button, the normally open contact is activated and the information is converted into an electrical signal, which is then transmitted through the cable. On the control panel, the electrical signal is a switch that turns on a specific contractor, which activates the motor to move the crane in the desired direction. The wired communications network requires components such as cables and types of terminal equipment.

wired vs wireless remote control crane

The connector is inserted at the end of the connection cable, so there should be no signal loss. In today's modern era, in wired communication networks, optical fiber technology is used to provide clear signals at both ends (ie, pendants and control panels). You are less likely to be harmed. However, due to cost reasons, multi-core copper cables are used. Compared with copper cable, fiber optic technology is the best choice because it provides long-distance communication with signal quality. Generally, wired communication is a more stable and reliable connection than other types. It can withstand severe weather conditions.

  • Wireless communication:

Wireless communication refers to the transmission of data through the air, the physical environment, or the atmosphere. In wireless remote control for crane connections, data exists in the form of electromagnetic signals. In the transmission method, the sending device converts the original information into an electromagnetic signal and then transmits the wireless signal through the air medium. When the signal reaches the destination, the receiver converts the electromagnetic signal into the original information. Similarly, information is sent and received.

Benefits:

  • Convenience:

One can wireless access network signals from any location through the coverage provided.

  • Mobility:

A person can move from one place to another while accessing the network. Wireless networks provide users with mobility without any interruption.

  • Easy Installation:

Wireless communication has a quick and easy installation procedure. It does not require many computers to configure the network.

  • Scalability:

We can easily expand the network by installing existing equipment. We only need to configure a router to connect to multiple devices. However, in a wired connection, if we need to connect another device. Then we must do the configuration again. Such a specific device is also connected to the network.

  • Security:

When encryption, firewall, and other security applications are installed on the network or device. Therefore, the wireless network provides strong security protection.

  • Cost-effective:

As it is a wireless so there is no need of extra cable. The installation cost is not high, and no maintenance is required.

Wired and Wireless communication security:

Wireless communication is based on electromagnetic waves and uses radio frequency (RF) to spread information through open space. Compared to a wireless remote control for crane, a wired connection is more secure. Because we can only access the wired network through the physical network cable. When we provide an authenticated identity, only a wired connection will allow us to access a particular network. However, in wireless connections, information is transmitted through open space. If someone leaks information and decrypts it. The broker or unauthorized person will then be able to access that particular network or information.

For wireless communication, we need a powerful security application.

Culmination:

If you don't care about the cost of upgrades or maintenance, and your users need maximum security, then wired communication is the best option. Plus, if users don't care about mobility, wired connections will cover all their needs. However, if you are concerned about costs and prioritize mobility, users should consider wireless communications. Because it is cost-effective and requires less equipment to install. In addition, it does not require maintenance.
