Thousands of pilgrims plan to travel to Amarnath every year. The government provides pilgrims with the necessary healthcare and safety safeguards. Also, pay close attention to the following Do's and Don'ts.

The following are the must-dos for Amarnath Yatris:

  1. Get a medical examination and be declared medically fit for the yatra (pilgrimage)
  2. Bring woolens, raincoats, windcheaters, sticks, torches, and blankets with you
  3. Bring dry eatables such as biscuits, sweets, milk powder, sugar, and assorted dry fruits, as well as a water bottle, plastic plates, tumblers, spoons, and so on
  4. Dress comfortably and avoid saris, dhotis, and dupattas
  5. Always hire a registered pony, a labourer, and a dandywalla, and make sure they don't get separated from you
  6. Always heed the instructions issued from time to time by the Yatra Officer
  7. Bring enough money to cover the cost of hotel, food, and other necessities
  8. Always keep a first-aid kit on hand

Here are some don'ts for Amarnath Yatris:

  1. Women Yatris are not permitted to wear sarees during the Yatra. It is best to wear a salwar kameez, a pantsuit, or a tracksuit.
  2. Women who are more than 6 weeks pregnant are not permitted to participate in the pilgrimage.
  3. Children under the age of 13 and elderly people over the age of 75 are not authorized to participate in the pilgrimage.
  4. Do not stop in areas indicated with warning signs. Only walk on the tracks.
  5. Avoid walking barefoot or without woolen clothing at all times because the temperature in the Yatra area remains low and fluctuates rapidly.
  6. There are severe slopes and falls on the path to the Holy Cave, so don't wear slippers. Wear only trekking shoes with lace.
  7. It is unsafe to take any shortcuts along the path.
  8. Don't start the trip on an empty stomach. If you do, you may end up with a major medical problem.
  9. During the whole Yatra, avoid doing anything that could pollute or disturb the environment.
  10. Bring no polythene material with you because its usage is illegal in J&K and punished by law.
  11. When visiting the Holy Cave, avoid throwing cash, currency notes, ornate chunnis, brass lotas, or any other substance at the Shivlingam.
  12. Due to the high altitude and harsh and unpredictable weather conditions, do not spend the night at Holy Cave.
  13. After 3 p.m., do not leave Panjtarni Camp for Holy Cave, as no darshan is permitted after 6 p.m.
  14. Please visit the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board's website and view the instructive Video documentary to become acquainted with the hardships that will be encountered throughout the Yatra path.
  15. If you have any questions about the Yatra, please call us at 01912503399 and 01912555662 (Jammu) or 01942313146, 019423 (Srinagar) and visit our website at www.shriamarnathjishrine.com.
