The wood of Amyris excretes elemi, a type of oleoresin that contains elemic acids, liquid sesquiterpenes, and triterpenes. Also known as West Indian Sandalwood this is also used as a  substitute for Eastern Sandalwood. Because of its very high oil content, native peoples burned it as a torch to light their path through darkness; so another name for it is Torchwood. Many people like to use Amyris Essential Oil as a sustainably alternative option to its endangered cousin, the Indian Sandalwood. The viscosity and aroma of Amyris compared with Sandalwood is rather different as Amyris is a bit more herbal, but it functions similarly and is much less pricey.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
