A digital twin is a virtual model created to precisely replicate a physical object. The object under investigation, such as a wind turbine, is outfitted with various sensors related to critical areas of functionality. These sensors generate information about various aspects of a physical object's performance, such as energy output, temperature, weather conditions, and so on. Digital Twin information is then transmitted to a processing system and applied to the digital copy. Once such data is available, the virtual model can be used to run simulations, investigate performance issues, and generate potential improvements, all with the goal of generating valuable insights that can then be applied back to the original physical object.
