In the past five years, the number of registered startups in India has increased from 452 in 2016 to 84,012 this week, according to data presented to Parliament this week. Several are based on internet-accessible cloud servers and data storage, and data-storage companies are offering a variety of incentives to attract and retain them on their platforms.

AWS, one of the largest providers of cloud services in India, has provided start-up credits that allow aspiring startups to use a suite of free computing, storage, and hosting services.

“If you are a student, you will receive one thousand dollars in credits, which is equivalent to approximately $82,600, and you will be able to immediately begin working on your project. As your business expands, you receive credits ranging from $5,000 (over 4 lacks) to $100,000. (82 links). We have distributed $2 billion (over 16,500 crores) in global credit since 2020. I am unable to provide exact numbers, but a significant portion of them are located in India. According to Kumar Raghavan, Head of Startups at AWS India, as some of these companies matured, they received varying levels of support.

More Innovation

AWS has helped “compress” the lifecycle of startups, allowing them to become more innovative. Mr Raghavan stated, “Cloud services enable them to simulate experiments in the cloud, run tests, fail, and learn from their mistakes.”

The third largest startup ecosystem in the world, India is one of the largest markets for cloud services. HealthifyMe, which developed the ‘Vaccinate Me' app, which allowed feature phones to book close to 50 million vaccination appointments; Fitter, which helps track body vitals and meet fitness goals; Credit Vidya, which allows workers who have never used a bank to ‘digitise' their salaries; Arogya.ai, which focuses on genomics and relied on the AWS system to store on the cloud data from blood samples; and Credit Vidya, which allows workers who have never used Mr Raghavan stated that Amazon Web Services also powered the Ayushman Bharat Digital initiative and the Cowin system for COVID-19 vaccinations.

It was anticipated that the cloud computing market in India would increase by 28.1% between 2017 and 2027. Small and medium-sized businesses increased adoption of cloud computing in India is a major factor driving the market forward. Moreover, according to a market research report by BlueWave Consulting, increasing investments in the construction of cloud data centers are expected to stimulate the Indian cloud computing market.

Standardized Instruction

While Bengaluru remains the startup capital of the country, AWS is increasingly connecting with startups in cities outside of Delhi and Mumbai. AWS offered several ongoing training programmes for individuals with minimal cloud computing education. Through nearly 500 free courses and eleven certifications, the company has trained nearly three million people in the United States. Mr Raghavan further explained that the company collaborated with 28 educational institutions to integrate AWS into their course curriculum.

AWS launched its second data-cluster region in Hyderabad, which will require $4.4 billion (approximately 36,300 crores) of investment by 2030. The new infrastructure and its services would result in the creation of 48 thousand of jobs in a variety of service sectors. Mumbai was the first region of this type.

“Such infrastructure is designed by locating it in different seismic zones,” Each region contains three “availability zones.” In the event of natural disasters, backup storage will always be available. However, the data centres are also designed to be geographically close and to have low latency (or delay) so that users across the nation can access their applications without interruption. Mr Raghavan claims that the precise locations of these zones are not made public.
