If you’re looking for a honey-infused rum, then look no further. There are plenty to choose from and these buzzy drinks will give you a warm feeling of satisfaction.
Traditionally, honey is added to rum after it’s been aged in wooden barrels for several months or years. This gives it a sweeter flavor than most rums, but it doesn’t necessarily add much to the overall strength of the drink.
1. Ron Miel
Ron Miel de Canarias is one of the best honey rum on the market. It is a traditional product that has a long history in the Canary Islands and was initially prepared in homes and small family-run bars.
It is made from a combination of aged rum and honey, with the honey being 100% natural and the rum being distilled on 100% traditional methods. It has an exceptional body and exquisite flavour, ideal to drink on its own or mixed in a wide variety of exciting drinks.
The rum in this liqueur is aged between seven and 18 years. It is then blended with the best natural honey from the surrounding islands and is bottled in an elegant glass.
It is a very clear liqueur with a colour that ranges from golden yellow to mahogany. It has a very sweet flavour with honey and caramel-like aromas and flavours, and is very palatable. It is also very rich and creamy on the palate with a smooth and pleasant finish.
2. Canary Islands
When most people think of rum, they imagine tiki drinks on the shores of the Caribbean. However, the drink is also associated with the Canary Islands in Spain.
The Canary Islands are known for their exceptional rum production, with hundreds of different brands that have gained global recognition. One of the most famous brands is Arehucas, which was founded in 1884.
They’re also known for their honey rum. Traditionally, honey rum was made at home and in small family-run bars on the islands.
Currently, ronmiel de Canarias is produced at the distillery Arehucas, the leading spirit company in the region.
It is a mixture of aged rum and honey. It has a Designation of Origin to guarantee traditional production methods and quality. Its taste is smooth and it’s an excellent choice for any type of cocktail.
3. Ferroni
One of the best honey rums we have come across is made in the Canary Islands. Ronmiel de Canarias is a smooth and sweet concoction that can be enjoyed in the form of a cocktail, on the rocks or simply with ice.
The Canary Islands have a rich history in the art of distilling rum, especially the honey variety. Arehucas Distilleries have been making the beverage since at least the eighteenth century, though it wasn’t until the 19th that they started to mass produce their product in large-scale facilities.
In the early 1700s, Florence artist Violante Ferroni was awarded a rather prestigious commission to paint two large religious scenes for the atrium of San Giovanni di Dio hospital, the modern world’s largest medical facility and today home to The Council of a Right to Health. Although Ferroni’s two oval paintings are still on display, they have not been fully restored and are not readily available to the public.
4. Ron Miel de Canarias
Honey rum is one of the most typical drinks from the Canary Islands. It is made using rum, an aguardiente (a sugar cane-based spirit), molasses or distillates, water, sugars and vegetable extracts, with a minimum amount of honey reaching 2% of the total volume.
Traditionally, honey rum was mixed in homes and small bars, but gradually rum production companies began to incorporate the traditional techniques into their production process. This resulted in the development of a thriving honey rum industry in the Canary Islands.
'Ronmiel de Canarias' has an alcoholic strength between 20 % and 30 %, a colour from golden to mahogany and an aroma that is dominated by honey aromas and notes of rum. The taste is sweet, unctuous and lively with an enveloping and long flavour. It is a liqueur that is ideal to drink on its own, or in cocktails, and ideally accompanied with ice. It is also a good choice for a digestif.
