A lot of interesting announcements were made in the WWDC 2021 regarding iPhone, Mac, and iPad. Many improvements are added for the betterment of the ecosystem in various features. For instance, Notes, FaceTime, and Universal control. In this blog, we will discuss all the new macOS features.
macOS Monterey features
Currently, macOS has only released the developer beta. They have decided to release the public beta a month later, i.e., in July 2021. However, if you can’t wait then you should follow the guide below and install the new macOS Monterey on Mac.
- FaceTime (Windows and Android):
With the new updates in macOS 12, FaceTime is going to get more powerful and tightly integrated with the Apple ecosystem. You will now be able to generate Google and Zoom-style links to a video chat. The highlight is that anyone will be able to join the video call from any platform if they have a FaceTime link. Also, you will now be able to use Portrait mode while making a FaceTime call from Mac. It has also come up with voice isolation modes and spatial audio that will eliminate background noises.
If you want to watch movies together with your friends, then this feature is for you. SharePlay is a new feature that comes with built-in FaceTime. This new feature allows you to watch movies and listen to music together with your friends, and you can even share your iPhone screen. This is a handy feature by Apple that is keeping the ongoing pandemic in mind. People are locked in their houses and want to do something fun with their friends. SharePlay is the way to go. It’s just like a Watch Party but on iPhone.
- Focus Mode:
If you don’t understand what Focus mode is, then it’s just a more detailed or you can say customizable DND section. Now, instead of keeping your phone silent, you can choose Focus mode. Focus mode lets you choose which notification you want to reach. Focus mode also provides 4 different sections you can choose from Sleep, Work, Personal, and DND.
- AirPlay to Mac:
So, if you don’t know what AirPlay is, then we are here, don’t worry. AirPlay is Apple’s wireless protocol. It is a feature that allows you to cast your iPhone screen wirelessly on any other Apple device. AirPlay can work over different connections like mobile data, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. But if you want a stable connection, then connect all the devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
Before the new macOS Monterey, AirPlay could only connect to devices like Apple Tv and HomePod. But now, Macs can become receivers for AirPlay too.
- Custom Mouse Pointer:
We all know that macOS has never been keen on Desktop Customization. But now, with the new Monterey feature, you are allowed to change the appearance of your cursor very easily. This doesn’t mean you can change it to anything, but you will be able to change the size and shape easily.
- Live Text:
This is also a new feature in Apple. They introduced new AI-based image recognition. This will allow you to capture texts from any image that you click. For you to do this in programming, you need hours and also learn python, believe me.
So, these are some of the best features introduced in the macOS Monterey at this WWDC 2021. After experiencing some of these things, we can say that macOS is also moving towards a more close-knit environment that can close the gap between different operating systems. New big things are coming, so stay tuned.
