When the summer heat arrives, I can think of nothing better than jumping into an ice-cold pool! I could spend hours lounging by the pool on a hot summer's day. Of course, public swimming pools or the sea are great for keeping cool, but it’s even better to have your own pool! (Hey, that rhymed!)

However, pools are not just for summer! If your pool is designed right, you should be able to enjoy spending time in or around it all year long.

Including a pool in your garden design is a fantastic idea that not only adds beauty to your outdoor space but serves a practical purpose. You can choose from a wide range of pool shapes and designs to create one that works for you and your lifestyle.

These days, you don’t even need to get someone to come to your home to design your dream pool! Instead, you can easily find a company that creates garden plans online, and they can help you plan a pool that’s perfect for you and your home.

Because I love spending time in my pool so much, I have pulled together a list of some of my favourite pool landscaping ideas to inspire others. If you are planning your own pool design, I hope these ideas help! Let’s get started…

FUNKY TILES

Let’s start with an easy way to create a unique and colourful pool design that will certainly WOW your guests! You can spice up your garden design by using tiles in or around your pool.

Ceramic and porcelain tiles are perfect for a swimming pool and are also good if you are on a tight budget! They are highly durable and look fantastic.

There is a huge variety of tile designs to choose from, whether you want bright, colourful patterns or a more minimal style. There are tiles with intricate designs, or you can even create a mosaic using them! Choose whichever design best suits your theme.

LOUNGE AREA

Another brilliant way to add another dimension to your pool is to set up a lounge area next to it. This way, you will have somewhere cosy and comfortable to relax in between laps of the pool!

And if it’s too cold to use the pool, you can still enjoy sitting beside it, watching the sparkling blue water!

Depending on your budget, you can invest in some garden furniture or try building your own! Garden furniture doesn’t have to be expensive. I recently built an outdoor sofa for less than $100. With some wood planks from the hardware store, a free blueprint I found online (and a little bit of help from my husband), I now have a simple yet luxurious place to relax outside when I’m not dunking myself in the pool!

Whether you choose to buy furniture or build it yourself, the important thing is to ensure it is comfy; otherwise, you won’t want to sit on it! Lots of cushions, blankets, and a table for your drinks can make this space one that you can enjoy relaxing in for hours.

LIGHT IT UP!

A vital way to ensure that your pool can be enjoyed all day long is to set up adequate lighting!

Strategically placed lamps, lanterns or candles around your pool and lounge area can create a super cosy vibe in your outdoor space. Then you will be able to enjoy endless hot summer nights spent either in or by the pool! And on those darker winter evenings, you can still spend time in your garden, lit up by your beautiful outdoor lights!

You can even add LED lights to the inside of your pool to make the pool water glow! This idea is not only very trendy right now, but LED lights are extremely efficient, which helps to keep your energy bill low.

STAY TOASTY

If you are worried about being cold outside in the evenings or during the winter months, then I have a solution! Outdoor heaters or fire pits are a great way to keep you nice and toasty while you enjoy sitting by the pool.

You can buy outdoor heaters from your local garden store.

SPA TIME!

This is one of my favourite ideas for a pool that can be enjoyed all year… turning it into a spa! When designing your garden plan, you can choose to incorporate a jacuzzi, hot tub, or sauna! These luxurious additions will guarantee you will be desperate to spend time in your garden every day.

Or, if these are a bit too pricey for your budget, you can easily and affordably make your garden into a spa by adding some candles around the pool, a relaxing lounge chair, and preparing a nice fuzzy towel or dressing gown to wear when you step out!

UNIQUE SHAPE

I have seen some incredible and unique pool shapes over the years, including a pool shaped like a guitar! When it comes to deciding on a pool shape, there are so many options to choose from.

You can have a symmetrical pool with straight lines. Or you can opt for a rounded pool with curved, smooth edges. Why not search for pictures of pool shapes online, and see what catches your eye!

Of course, each garden shape is different, so not all pool shapes will be suitable for your space. Whether you hire a local landscaping company or use a professional who does garden plans online, they will be able to assist you in choosing the ideal pool shape that will fit perfectly in your garden.

NATURAL PARADISE

Finally, you can use trees, bushes and flowers to create a natural, inviting pool paradise!

A local landscaping expert or a professional in garden plans online will be able to help you choose the perfect poolside greenery.

By carefully placing palm trees, colourful flowers and other lush green plants around your pool, it will be a stunning location to enjoy all year.

HAPPY PLANNING!

And there you have it! The best pool landscaping ideas I know. You can mix and match any and all these different ideas to create the perfect design for you! And maybe you have some more fun ideas yourself! Enjoy the garden planning process, and make it a space you will enjoy every day.

If you decide to use a company that does garden plans online, don’t hesitate to tell them every single detail you would like included in your garden and pool design! That way, you will be sure to achieve the garden of your dreams.

I hope this article has inspired you to get planning, and soon you will have the best pool in the neighbourhood! Happy pool planning!
