When I first started planning my Manaslu Circuit Trek, one question kept coming to my mind: What is the best time to visit Manaslu? I read many travel guides and watched countless videos, but I truly understood the answer only after experiencing the trek myself. Looking back today, I can confidently say that choosing the right season made my journey even more enjoyable.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal's most beautiful trekking routes. Unlike some of the more crowded trails, Manaslu offers peaceful walking paths, traditional mountain villages, breathtaking Himalayan scenery, and a rich local culture. Every day brought something new, and I never felt bored throughout the journey.
I decided to visit during the autumn season, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. From the very beginning, the weather was pleasant. The skies remained clear almost every day, allowing me to enjoy uninterrupted views of Mount Manaslu and the surrounding snow-covered peaks. The fresh mountain air, comfortable temperatures, and colourful landscapes made every step feel rewarding.
One of the first things I noticed during the trek was how peaceful everything felt. There were fewer trekkers compared to other famous routes in Nepal, so I could truly enjoy the sounds of nature. I heard birds singing in the forests, rivers flowing beside the trail, and the gentle wind moving through the trees. It was one of the most relaxing travel experiences I have ever had.
As I walked through the villages, I met local people who welcomed visitors with genuine kindness. Their simple lifestyle, traditional stone houses, colourful prayer flags, and ancient monasteries gave the trek a unique cultural atmosphere. Every evening I stayed in small tea houses where the owners served warm meals and shared stories about life in the mountains. These moments became some of my favourite memories.
If someone asks me about the best time to visit Manaslu, I always recommend either spring or autumn. After speaking with local guides and experienced trekkers, I learned that these two seasons offer the most reliable weather and the clearest mountain views.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is one of the most beautiful seasons for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. During these months, the forests become colourful with blooming rhododendron flowers, making the trails even more scenic. The temperatures are comfortable for walking, and the days are usually sunny with excellent visibility.
Many trekkers choose spring because the weather is stable and nature looks fresh after winter. If you enjoy colourful landscapes and pleasant temperatures, spring is definitely one of the best times to visit Manaslu.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is the season I personally experienced, and I can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations. After the monsoon rains, the air becomes fresh and clean, creating crystal-clear mountain views. Every morning I woke up to bright blue skies and magnificent Himalayan peaks glowing in the sunlight.
The weather remained comfortable throughout the trek, making long walking days much easier. Although there were more trekkers than in other seasons, the trail still felt peaceful compared to many other popular trekking destinations in Nepal.
For photographers, autumn is truly the best time to visit Manaslu because visibility is excellent almost every day.
Summer (June to August)
Summer is the monsoon season in Nepal. During this time, heavy rainfall can make the trails muddy and slippery. Rivers become stronger, and clouds often hide the mountain views. Leeches may also appear in lower forest areas.
Although some adventurous travellers still visit during summer, I personally would choose another season for a safer and more enjoyable trekking experience.
Winter (December to February)
Winter offers peaceful trails with very few trekkers. However, temperatures become extremely cold, especially at higher elevations like Larke Pass. Heavy snowfall may block some sections of the trail, making the trek more challenging.
If you have previous high-altitude trekking experience and enjoy snowy landscapes, winter can still be rewarding. However, for most people, spring and autumn remain the best time to visit Manaslu.
One thing I loved most about the Manaslu Circuit Trek was the variety of landscapes. Every day felt completely different. One morning I walked through green forests, while the next day I crossed rocky mountain paths with breathtaking Himalayan views. Suspension bridges, waterfalls, rivers, glaciers, and peaceful valleys created unforgettable scenery throughout the journey.
Crossing the famous Larke Pass was the highlight of my adventure. It was physically challenging, but standing at the top while looking across the surrounding mountains was one of the proudest moments of my life. Every difficult step suddenly became worthwhile.
The local hospitality also made a huge difference. The tea houses were simple but comfortable, and every meal tasted wonderful after hours of trekking. Dal Bhat quickly became my favourite dinner because it gave me plenty of energy for the following day's hike.
Looking back, I realise that the Manaslu Circuit Trek offered much more than beautiful scenery. It taught me patience, confidence, and the importance of slowing down to appreciate nature. Without mobile distractions or busy city life, I found myself enjoying simple moments like watching the sunrise, drinking hot tea, and talking with local families.
If you are planning your own adventure, I strongly recommend spending enough time preparing both physically and mentally. Walking at high altitude requires patience, but the rewards are unforgettable.
Finally, if you are still wondering about the best time to visit Manaslu, my answer is simple. Choose spring if you love colourful flowers and mild temperatures, or choose autumn if you want crystal-clear skies and incredible mountain photography. Both seasons offer outstanding trekking conditions and unforgettable Himalayan views.
My journey on the Manaslu Circuit Trek remains one of the greatest adventures of my life. The peaceful trails, welcoming people, breathtaking mountains, and rich local culture created memories that I will always treasure. If you are searching for an authentic trekking experience away from busy tourist routes, Manaslu is the perfect destination. Whenever I think about Nepal, the first place that comes to mind is the beautiful Manaslu region, and I already dream of returning one day to experience its magic all over again.
