A Southern Gentleman

I fell into you
and you devoured me whole
cannibalized my soul
left me torn apart, forsaken
mutilated by your savage love.
I lost myself in your darkness
the black hole of your bitter heart.
I allowed you to define me
until you justified my existence; you
recreated me as though you were my god
built me according to your selfish specifications
then you destroyed me, raped my spirit and
abandoned me, reducing me to
a mere casualty of your caustic love.
