You can either take a bus, train or any personal conveyance for your journey. Going by air is a bit expensive but also the most convenient option to reach there. After reaching Jammu, you can hire a taxi or a bus to reach the base camp of Katra, it is located 50km from there.

The journey of Vaishnodevi is a thrill in itself. Starting from Katra onwards, you will find many stalls, fast-food joints, and the government established canteens. There are even some registered trusts that offer free housing especially for the poor people who cannot afford to stay in the luxury hotels. You will find a number of options to reach the shrine as in helicopters, horses etc but you should not miss the opportunity to walk if you can. There is also a main bazaar with the numerous options of souvenirs, woolen garments, hosiery, dry fruits, leather jackets, etc., where you can buy your requirements when needed.

Visiting this holy place is not only a spiritual journey, but it also tests one's faith and love for their beloved deity by leaving all the daily facilities behind. Leave all the material comforts and luxuries, and undertake this journey to experience an out-of-body experience.
