Qualify for Disability with Kidney Dialysis in 2022
The kidneys are in charge of several body functions, such as cleaning the blood and producing urine. Over time, diseases like chronic kidney disease also known as CKD can harm the kidneys, and when CKD becomes so extreme such that the kidneys cannot properly function any longer, the patient develops End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), and the damage is irreversible. Many times, the only way to resolve it is a kidney transplant, but before receiving a kidney transplant, the patient must go through dialysis treatment. To qualify for social security disability, you need to meet SSA's Blue Book listing for dialysis.
Medically Qualifying for Benefits with the Blue Book
The SSA reviews all initial and reconsideration disability applications using the Blue Book, which is SSA's official listing of qualifying impairments.
If you are currently undergoing dialysis treatment and its expected to last for at least 12 months, and you have the medical evidence to support your claim, you should be automatically approved for disability benefits. Chronic kidney disease, with chronic hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis can be found in Section 6.00—Genitourinary Disorders of the Blue Book. Within this section, in order to qualify, SSA requires medical evidence of your chronic kidney failure while on prescribed treatment that requires either chronic hemodialysis (man-made dialysis) or peritoneal dialysis.
Now if you dont quite meet this blue book listing, do not worry. You may still be eligible for disability. There are many other blue book listings for kidney diseases.
