Celebrate World Wind Day 2022 – The Power That Will Make Us Fly

0

Remember how we used to dress up in large shirts or wrap bedsheets around our necks like capes to feel like Superman when capes flew? There's a lot of wind and the sheets are blowing around. We had no idea how powerful wind was as a natural resource back then. We believe that wind can save us from running out of electricity now that technology has advanced and fossil fuels have been depleted.

We used to always stand against the wind to face it and feel powerful as children. We need such high winds today so that we can get our machines up and running. We've put up this post to commemorate the presence of the powerful wind all around us on World Wind Day 2022.

2022 is the International Wind Day.

The world will commemorate Global Wind Day 2022 on June 15th of this year. This day is observed every year on June 15 as a day for examining the potential results of wind power around the world. It's a day dedicated to learning about wind, its power, and the potential for it to reshape our energy systems. On June 15, Global Wind Day, also known as World Wind Day, is observed. It's a day dedicated to learning about wind energy and its potential to alter energy systems, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance jobs and growth. The day's purpose is to enhance public awareness of wind energy and its uses. On this day, people all across the world remember the importance of wind energy and how it can change the world.

The conversion of wind energy into useable energy, such as utilising wind turbines to generate electricity, windmill blades to provide mechanical power, wind pumps to syphon out or drain water, or sails to propel ships, is known as wind power. Because wind energy is abundant, renewable, widely spread, clean, emits no greenhouse gas emissions while in use, and requires little land, it is a potential alternative source of energy.

Wind energy also generates employment. Maintenance crews for wind turbines are the second fastest growing occupation in the United States. Many other countries, in addition to the United States, benefit from similar advantages. The top wind energy producers in the world are China, Germany, India, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. Wind energy has the following benefits, according to the Energy Department:

  • It is one of the most cost-effective energy sources;
  • It is a clean form of energy because it does not rely on fossil fuels such as coal; and
  • It is a renewable energy source that never runs out.

The History of Global Wind Day 2022

For thousands of years, wind energy has been used as a source of energy. As early as 5,000 B.C., Egyptians harnessed wind power to drive their ships down the Nile River. In 200 B.C., the Chinese improved on this by inventing wind-powered water pumps. Windmills with woven-reed propellers were also discovered in the Middle East and Persia, which could grind grain faster and with less personnel, resulting in more efficient agricultural productivity. In the first century A.D., Heron of Alexandria invented the windwheel. According to anthropologists, this was the first time a contraption was powered by a wind-driven wheel. A small windmill powered a piston that blew air through the organ pipes. It created a flute-like sound, according to records.

Let's have a look at the recent history of this windy day:

The first Wind Day was held in 2007 by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).

  • The EWEA and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) cooperated in 2009 to make it a global event.
  • Wind Europe and the GWEC have recently collaborated to arrange the day. In 2012, the organisation hosted a photo contest. People from all across the world were urged to send in images that best captured the subject for the year. Two current themes are “The Wind in My Mind” and “Future Wind.”

Theme of the Year for Global Wind Day 2022

The goal of Global Wind Day 2022 is to raise awareness about the benefits of wind energy while also teaching people about its power and ability to help the planet. On this day, wind energy companies and organisations all over the world participate in a variety of activities. Educational seminars, field trips to wind farms, wind turbine demonstrations, and parades are among the events. National wind energy organisations and enterprises interested in wind power generation hold events in various countries across the world in partnership with EWEA and GWEC. Visits to onshore and offshore wind farms, awareness initiatives, demonstration turbines in towns, wind seminars, and a wind parade are among the events scheduled. Many activities take place on Global Wind Day, as well as in the weeks and months leading up to and after it.

The Importance of World Wind Day in 2022

With the threat of climate change looming, maximising the use of renewable energy sources like wind is more important than ever. According to globalwindday.org, wind energy is now a mature and widely used technology. With over $100 billion spent in 2015, it is also one of the fastest-growing industrial sectors. In the previous year, the wind sector in the EU equipped more than the gas and coal industries combined. It can also supply electricity to 87 million homes, or 15% of the region's power needs. As a result of this possibility, the significance of the day grows tremendously, as more people should be aware of the advantages of wind energy. This is a collaborative initiative involving multiple countries.

On Global Wind Day, there are a variety of activities to participate in.

Wind energy companies and organisations all over the world celebrate this day with a range of activities. These events include information seminars, wind farm tours, wind turbine demonstrations, and parades. Here are some other ways to participate:

  • Learn more about the benefits of wind energy.
  • Involve your children in a study project to learn more about wind.
  • Try flying a kite, spinning a pinwheel, or catching leaves if it's windy outside.
  • Use a weather deflector or a windsock to determine the direction of the wind.
  • Watch The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind on Netflix.
  • To post a wind-related photo on social media, use the hashtag #GlobalWindDay.
