Apart from Sheldon’s conventional intelligence in the show Young Sheldon, other characters can also be considered intelligent in their own way.

Young Sheldon is a sitcom and spin-off prequel of the famous show The Big Bang Theory. It follows the character of the young Sheldon played by the brilliant child artist Iain Armitage alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts in the supporting roles. In contrast, Jim Parson, who played adult Sheldon’s character in the original series, narrates the series.

The development of the series started in November 2016, and the first episode premiered on 25 September 2017. Armitage won the 2018 Young Artist Awards for Best Performance in a TV Series – Leading Young Actor. The show was added on HBO Max on 2 September 2020 and on Nick at Nite on 30 November 2020.

In the show, the character of Sheldon has shown extreme genius in academics. At the same time, the other characters are as capable as him if they get there with effort and hard work. In this article, we tried to rank the characters according to their intelligence.

Mary Cooper

Mary Cooper is the mother of Sheldon, played by Zoe Perry. The character is very patient and protective of Sheldon. Still, she also has a tough time understanding her son at times. She is a devoted Christian and has friction about Sheldon’s atheism. Mary’s intentions are always hiding behind the veil of religion. But, she also loves her son and family very much.

George Cooper, Sr.

George is Sheldon’s father and the head football coach. He prioritizes his family and his duty over his needs. Cooper tries to live a simple life and does not share his son’s intellect. The father-son’s intellectual difference often makes George’s mother, “Meemaw,” doubt his genetic relationship. However, he often has defended his son on multiple occasions despite his limited understanding of his son’s gifted intellect.

In the original series, The Big Bang Theory, the adult Sheldon has referred to his father as a violent drunk. Still, in Young Sheldon, the character is much kinder.

Tam Nguyen

Ryan Phuong played the role of Tam Nguyen. The character is Sheldon’s one of the childhood’s closest friends and a Vietnamese-American student. Nguyen is the one who introduced Sheldon to his other hobbies except for academies, including role-playing games and comic books.

Tam has a disputed relationship with his parents, which made him much mature for his age. At one point in the show, he decided to make a labor union with his two sisters and take his parents to court. Many instances show that Tam also has an above-average intelligence as Sheldon and value the old fashioned legal procedure.

Connie “Meemaw” Tucker

Like Penny’s character in The Big Bang Theory, Meemaw has street smarts, unlike the traditional book smarts as Sheldon. Meemaw (Annie Potts)shares a high opinion of herself, just like her grandson Sheldon and is not afraid to show it. The character is extremely sarcastic and derogatory to others, especially to her son.

She has a special place in Sheldon’s life. Connie Tucker also loves Sheldon and encourages his intellect.

Missy Cooper

Raegan Revord plays the character of Missy Cooper; she is Sheldon’s fraternal twin sister. She teases Sheldon along with their older brother Georgie but not as much. Missy doesn’t share Sheldon’s intellect, but she is very perspective. The character also has a huge similarity with Penny. She is very observant and intuitive, even though she used most of it to mock Sheldon and her relatives.

Missy is a confident and brutally honest girl and can be considered bright if not overshadowed by Sheldon’s intellect.

Sheldon Cooper

Lastly, the star of both shows, played by young actor Iain Armitage in the Young Sheldon, is the smartest person for his gifted intelligence and his willingness to keep improving. The character’s narcissistic and egotistical behavior makes him an extremely difficult person. But he is the “once in a generation” mind who is destined to alter the course of physics.
