Sony's XPERIA range of Android devices includes large screen smartphones, phablets and tablets. With the release of the Sony XPERIA Z3 Tablet Compact, his attention is now focused on the 8-inch market. It captures Sony's mobile essence of recent years, but does not have the finishing touches. As expected, the XPERIA Z3 Tablet Compact is another Android handset with the Snapdragon family from Qualcomm. With a 2.5GHz quad-core 801 processor and 3GB of RAM, the tablet is no problem and should be able to handle most tasks, and it's a dream to play rich games and graphic experiences. The clock rate is slightly lower than the ultimate performance, but this helps maintain battery life. With the inclusion of 3GB of RAM (and a microSD slot for further expansion), the Z3 Tablet Compact remains relevant and future-proof for at least a year, probably two. The tablet also continues Sony's tradition of making its hardware watertight and dustproof – in this case IP68 certification level.
One step behind the rest with the screen:
A look at the Android assortment from Sony shows that the Japanese company has never taken any risks or seriously attacked the display. With other manufacturers pushing for larger, higher resolution screens, Sony has always lagged a step or two behind. The same approach is shown here with the Z3 tablet. At 1920×1200, the screen will display HD video, but for tablets with the most pixels, no points will be awarded. As always, Sony relies on bold colors, deep blacks and proprietary graphics processing technology to make up for the backlog. The Z3 tablet certainly shows its colors well, though it feels a bit ‘poppy' when looking at natural pictures.
