In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Warner Bros. Pictures has indefinitely delayed the release of Christopher Nolan helmed sci-fi thriller Tenet. Initially scheduled for a July 17, 2020 release date, the film pushed for a premiere on July 31, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the feature film’s release date was postponed to August 12. In a statement, the makers finally took a call to indefinitely postpone Tenet’s release date owing to the public health crisis.
According to reports, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman, Toby Emmerich. He stated that their primary goal has been to ensure that every film coming out of their production house is successful. In addition to this, Emmerich further added that they would also help the theatre chains by releasing movies once it is safe to open shop.
Christopher Nolan’s Most “Expensive” to Date
Tenet is Nolan’s most expensive original project to date. The budget is around $200-225 million. The sci-fi thriller stars John David Washington in the lead role. It is supported by a strong star cast composed of Robert Pattinson, Michael Caine, Dimple Kapadia, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kenneth Branagh.
A Plot Shrouded in Complete Secrecy
The only thing we know so far about Tenet’s plot is that Washington’s character works for an organization of the same name. The story revolves around his fight to save the world from catastrophic consequences through the medium of international espionage. According to reports, the film’s plot also revolves around the concept of time.
Coronavirus Pandemic Brings Global Box Office to Complete Standstill
The coronavirus pandemic has brought the entire world to a complete standstill. Many directors have delayed the release of their films. Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Widow was initially scheduled for April 24, 2020, release but was further pushed to a November 6, 2020 premiere because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Warner Bros. Pictures had initially announced ‘Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It’ in 2016. In the year, there was an official announcement on the development of the film in 2017. Michael Chaves will helm the 8th installment in The Conjuring Universe. The horror flick was initially scheduled for a September 11, 2020 release in the United States but was pushed to June 4, 2021. According to reports, the film will premiere in India on September 11, 2020, but there is a lot of uncertainty due to the current situation.
James Bond: No Time to Die Pushed to Late 2020 Release
One of the big-budget films which have pushed its release date to November 2020 is James Bond: No Time to Die. The 25th film in the iconic Bond series was initially going to be released in theatres on April 10, 2020. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Universal Pictures took the call after cinemas were shut down indefinitely, and they did not want to release the film on online platforms.
Makers Postpone F9’s Premiere Date to 2021
Another upcoming film was also delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the next installment in the popular Fast and Furious franchise, F9 has been postponed to an April release in 2021. This announcement was made by Universal, the studio behind the film. The high action film was going to release on May 22, 2020.
