The Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in Pune and the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Pune states that nearly 5 million Indians usually receive blood transfusions every year for various reasons such as because of a surgery, diseases or conditions including anaemia and haemophilia or due to a severe accident or injury. Blood which is merely used in this procedure should be collected with sincere cruciality under the process of blood donation, as it is a great way to serve and help someone. But, when one tends to donate their blood, there should be a series of questions which need to be kept in concern including questions related to the health issues, the lifestyle they reside in, their travel history to witness whether they are eligible or not. But, including in one’s lifestyle, there are various addictions and interests of individuals which they go through including smoking cannabis, thus disqualifying you from donating blood, whereas if you right away turn up at the appointment, the infusion in your blood can be clearly taken and observed.

According to the Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in Pune, it is stated that the Red Cross does not encourage the use of abusive substances on the run with marijuana, cigarettes and alcohol. An individual consuming particularly these items in heavy arm will be straightaway rejected from donating blood and cannot even be considered as potential donors in the mere future whether or not you are under the use of illicit or licit use, however in the case of marijuan it is deferral as it is an legal source of consumption. Also, just smoking cigarettes does not stop one from donating blood, but one should avoid smoking on the day of appointments for at least three to four hours if possible. As smoking increases the level of blood pressure in one, thus after donating blood the process can cause the issues of dizziness within the body. Therefore, following are some of the barred activities, due to which one cannot qualify for blood donation process. They are as follows:

  • Using illicit injection drugs individuals are not allowed to share their blood.
  • Using injection drugs which are not prescribed by any doctor, particularly steroids, those individuals are not allowed for blood transfusion.
  • If you are feeling sick or even having a small infection in the body, just before 24 hours of your appointment, then avoid the process as well.
  • Pregnant women, who have just given birth, cannot transfer their blood before or after 6 months.
  • Individuals, who have a tattoo or even a piercing within the past year, are not allowed to share blood.
  • Individuals who have gone through the process of any organ transplant in the last 1 year are barred.
  • Individuals testing positive for HIV, Hepatitis B or C, suffering with Ebola, having blood clotting disorder, have leukaemia, lymphoma or any cancer cannot opt for blood donation.
