After making the Corolla a global car with the sedan, Toyota today introduced an entirely new generation of sedans. While we don't have all the details yet, it looks like the 2020 Corolla sedan, with its two styles and new platform, will be the car to beat in this segment.
The 12th generation model is based on the TNGA platform, which is already familiar with things like the Prius, Corolla hatchback, and C-HR. The multi-link rear suspension is standard on all models, which makes the Jetta pretty silly.
The wheelbase remains the same, but the chains have been widened by half an inch at the front and a little more at the rear.
It seems that Toyota changed things to make it sportier. For example, the hood is lowered a whopping 1.4 inches, the overall height is lowered, while the front overhang has been narrowed to make room for another 1.3 inches in the rear. The global specifications of the car (introduced simultaneously in Europe and Asia) are 4640 mm (182.7 inches) long, 1780 mm (70.1 inches) wide and 1435 mm (56 inches). 5 inches) tall, at 2,700 mm (106.3 inches). in) the wheelbase.
Toyota USA will announce three engine options when the 2020 Corolla goes on sale next year. It is based on a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with an output of 139 hp. Global models will have something different, like a 2-liter hybrid in Europe or a 1.2-turbo for Japan.
As you may have noticed, there are two styles. For most customers, Toyota has the prestige look that resembles the hatch and comes with L, LE and XLE bezels. The sportier fairing has a much larger lower grille and a narrower badge at the front. SE and XSE are offered with identical content (XLE = XSE), but with the option of a manual that corresponds to speed and blocking suppression.
The sports model has interesting elements such as slightly widened fenders and metallic paint on the front bumper, the side skirts and a rear diffuser with a honeycomb mesh. We also find the Chinese model which has a different front with the much thinner headlight.
