Sprinkler System Installation Checklist
Considering purchasing a sprinkler system and not sure what to do before installation? We created a quick checklist to help make your sprinkler system installation easier
1. Check the property lines
It is important to have all the corners of your property boundaries marked. You don't want your irrigation installer to guess where the lines are and accidentally lay the pipe on your neighbor's property. It can be expensive to move the lines once they are installed.
2. Check off the plans
If you are planning to build a shed, landscape, build a deck, etc., it is good to spray paint where you plan to place them in the future. Although it's not that difficult to move forward or two, identifying where you plan to place additional items can help your installer design a better system for your future needs.
3. Dial private lines
Gopher State One will mark all utilities entering your home, such as natural gas, cable, phone line, and power. However, they will not dial any private lines that you have installed. Many homeowners have run the cables inside their yard and the only way to find them is to have a company locate the private lines.
If you have private lines including but not limited to dog fences, propane tanks, outlet cables, propane lines, septic system, etc., you will want them marked prior to installation. If you don't have an idea where these lines are, you can risk getting damaged. If you are unsure, a rough estimate is better than nothing.
4. Water your lawn before installation
If you already have an established lawn, it can make a big difference if you water your lawn frequently before installation. The pipe penetrates the soil much more easily and can help with the overall healing of your lawn after installation.
Level your garden
If you have black soil, it is important to level your garden to the final grade. It is important because your installer will fix your heads to the degree you have. If you level afterward, some of the heads may be too high or too low.
It doesn't have to be perfect because once the sprinkler installation is complete, the soil will need to be finished to a final level to smooth out the lines dug out by irrigation.
5. Know if you are sowing or sowing
It is important that you inform the sprinkler system installations prior to installation if you are planting or laying grass in your yard. It will determine how deep your valve heads and boxes leave.
