A crane is a machine used widely in industries for lifting, lowering, or moving heavy loads. This machine replaces manpower and can be modified to increase its capabilities to lift. These machines generally consist of a hoist rope, wire ropes, or chains, and sheaves. Since their invention, they have been transformed time-to-time and are manufactured as required by the constantly developing industry.

The Evolution of Cranes

The word crane emerged from the idea behind the design of this machine which resembles a bird that beholds almost the same shape. The first crane machine was invented in ancient Mesopotamia (now Iraq), then it was adopted by Egyptian technology. Made of wood, it was used as a water-lifting device called “the shaduf”. A construction crane was later introduced to the world by ancient Greece, which was powered by men or animals. Then, these machines were later transformed as per their requirement. The evolving technology did wonders, and they became a need in almost every industrial facility. They can be fixed to a particular place or can be mobile. Can be huge enough to lift 500tons and can be small enough to pick and drop lightweights. Today, we have a plethora of options of crane manufacturers to choose from. Technology has replaced manpower, and hydraulic systems or high-performance combustion engines are running these machines operated by computerized systems.

Types of Cranes

There are two types of cranes – Mobile and Fixed

Mobile cranes are designed to be transported to the site with a little or no setup assembly. They are designed as a truck-like structure with a hydraulic boom mounted on the top. There are four primary types of mobile cranes: truck-mounted, rough-terrain, crawler, and floating. The other types consist of – all-terrain, side lifter, carry deck, telescopic handler, aerial, pick and carry, travel lift, railroad, and harbour cranes.

Fixed cranes are immobile, used to lift heavy loads, and can reach higher heights as they offer high stability. They can be assembled and disassembled. Types of fixed cranes are – ring, tower, telescopic, hammerhead, level-luffing, gantry, deck, jib, bulk handling, loader, and stacker cranes.

Crane manufacturers in India

The first crane machine called “the shaduf” is still used in some rural areas of Egypt and India. India being a developing country, transformed its industry standards and today consists of some of the largest industrial plants in the world. With the growing market, India has many multinational and domestic crane manufacturers. Some of them are giving a lot of emphasis on their products to revolve around the changing times and technology. The cranes are built with more safety features and come equipped with more advanced options to operate them. RMS Industries is one such leading crane manufacturer in India. They provide a wide range of products used in an industry today. The products are feature-loaded, genuine, long-lasting, safe, and require low maintenance. Visit LOADMATE for more information.
