Introduction

When it comes to water heaters, Bottini Fuel knows a thing or two about them. For instance, we know that the average water heater only lasts between 8 and 10 years. This means that there is a very good chance that your water heater is on the way out the door. Well, when it comes time to purchase a new water heater, we have come up with a few things that you need to consider first. Make sure that when the time comes that you consider all your options. You don't want to go to the same model and type simply because you think it will be easier. That being said, let's get on with this and share with you the things to consider when buying a new water heater.

But, First

Before you can just run out and buy a new water heater, you have to know what you currently have. It may not be as close to the end of its life as you think. To start off with, you are going to have to locate your water heater. We are sure that you will have no problem with that unless you just moved into the house. Next, you are going to want to find the nameplate on the unit. This should generally be on the top of the unit or somewhere near the connections. The nameplate is important because it tells us all about the unit that we are going to need to know. For example, we can tell the year in which it is manufactured, what kind of insulation that was used, how big it is, the model, and the serial number. You really don't need anything but the serial number for now. When you look at the unit, the serial number will start with a letter. It will be an A all the way down to an L. These letters represent the month in which it was manufactured. A is for January, B is for February, C is for March, etc. The two digits that follow that are the year in which it was made. So, if you have G13 that means that is was made in July of 2013 (well we hope it was not 1913). That means that you still have a couple of years until you need to replace it.

Things to Consider

Now that you know about your unit, you are going to have to consider some things. First off, is it in need of replacement? If not, come back when it is. Second, you need to know what size tank you need. If you are constantly running out of hot water, consider a bigger model. Other things to consider are dimensions, recovery rate, and energy efficiency.

Conclusion

Bottini Fuel hopes that they have provided you with enough information to check out your water heater and decide if you are ready to have a new one. Make sure to go over the things to consider when you are going to make your next purchase.
