The team of Avatar 2 shared the look of Pandora’s waterscapes. After the release of the first film, the franchise is creating the sequel after almost a decade.

Avatar is a science fiction movie franchise written, directed, and produced by James Cameron. The first project was set in the 22nd century and followed the human who is colonizing Pandora, a lush habitable moon in Alpha Centauri. The expansion of mining threatens the tribals of Na’vi. They are the humanoid species that live in Pandora. The 2009 Avatar stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang.

Avatar was a major hit at the box office and received many praises from the audience and critics. It collected around $2.79 billion against a budget of $237 million. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won three of them for Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography. Soon after the first movie’s success, director Cameron has signed for four sequels of the franchise. The second and third sequel has completed the shooting of the project.

The second installment, Avatar 2, is scheduled for 16 December 2022. It will follow the first film of the franchise, with Worthington, Saldana, Gerald being the few actors who will be seen in their original roles. On the other hand, the franchise also added a few brilliant actors, including Vin Diesel, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, Edie Falco, and Brendan Cowell.

The team is teasing its fans with several photos and concept art. Avatar 2 will explore Pandora’s underwater universe; hence, there are many behind-the-scenes pictures where the actors are filming in tanks. For the filming actress Kate Winslet has to train herself to hold her breath underwater. And the award-winning actress impressively broke the record of Tom Cruise with seven minutes time duration. The movie asked the actors for the commitment, and the entire cast of the project has given their performance with full dedication.

The plot of the second installment starts after 13 years, where the first film ended. It follows Neytiri and Jake Sully forming a family, and they struggle through anything to stay together. The couple is forced to leave their home and explore different areas of Pandora. Previously the team has shared the behind-the-scenes pictures of Winslet where she was shooting for an underwater sequence. And this week, a picture of director Cameron was released where he shows the members of Avatar 2 some concept art. Fans can see Joel David Moore and Weaver in the picture. The picture was shared by producer Jon Landau and captioned as:

Snapped this picture of Jim sharing concept art with the cast during our rehearsal period for the Avatar sequels.

However, it is hard to tell what the director was showing to his team members as the picture doesn’t capture the art’s proper view. Still, it highlights that the art depicts something related to the underwater world. The producer’s caption also draws attention towards it as it might indicate that the concept arts could also be for future installments of the Avatar franchise.

The film will be released after more than a decade. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the theatres are at an extreme loss. Hence it is not possible to tell whether the sequel will perform the same as the first installment. The film industry has changed a lot since the release of Avatar. However, fans are still excited about the project and are creating much hype. And also, with some big names, the film might attract a fair amount of audience to the theatres. Hopefully, the sequel Avatar 2 would receive equal love and success as the original one.
