Ford and Chevy pickup trucks are very popular in North America. But have you ever stopped to think about Japan's contribution to the world of road transport? That's right, we're talking about the truck with a capital P, or the Revo if you want to call it that.
It's been called the truck cockroach because it just refuses to die. At the hands of the former Top Gear team, the Revo was set on fire, fell from the sky, hit with a wrecking ball, and drowned in the ocean. He survived it all and earned a reputation for indestructibility. Did we forget that they also placed the Toyota on top of a building that was being blown up? Yes, don't forget it.
It's safe to say that the old truck got some love and wasn't the '80s custom truck world's favorite either. However, this render from Brad Builds helps remedy that.
It is supposed to be a drift truck conversion, sitting on the ground. The artist added a widebody kit and “forged” his own carbon fiber texture on top. The aerodynamic spoiler and huge rear diffuser collide with the classic boxy truck, but that's the point of the rendering.
Before you tell us that drift trucks don't exist, know that Toyota officially endorsed a D1-inspired Tacoma Widebody project for last year's SEMA Show.
The Tacoma and Revo are connected at the hip. This first generation Taco came out in 1995 and replaced the model known simply as the Pickup or Compact Truck, which in turn was a renowned Revo.
In the 1980s, Toyota made the camper van version of the Revo, which later became the 4Runner. We might even get a chance to see this classic 3rd gen Revo body drift away, thanks to the @scrapelux project you can check out below.
