Condition 1: If you see QuickBooks Error 6123 while opening or upgrading your company file

Step 1: To get started:

  • Remove any special characters from the file name in the first place.

  • Make sure that your file name doesn’t exceed 30 characters without space.

Step 2: Download and install the QuickBooks Tools Hub.

  • Firstly, you have to close QuickBooks.

  • Then, download the QuickBooks Tools Hub file and save it on your desktop.

  • Now, open the downloaded file, i.e., QuickBooksToolsHub.exe, and install it by agreeing to terms and conditions.

  • Once the installation process completes, double-click on the Windows desktop icon to open the tools hub.

  • If the icon isn’t visible to you, you must perform a quick window search for QuickBooks Tools Hub and select the program.

Step 3: Run “QuickFix my Program”

  • At first, go to the QuickBooks Tools Hub and select the option Program Problems.

  • Select QuickFix my Program. It might take a minute to run, but the time may vary if you have multiple versions installed.

  • When QuickFix my Program completes, open QuickBooks and check for the error status.

Step 4: Run the File Doctor

If QuickFix my Program didn't give any effective result, you can use File Doctor to repair your company file. It scans and fixes common QuickBooks Desktop data issues on its own.

  • Firstly, select the company file Issues in the QuickBooks Tools Hub, and Run QuickBooks File Doctor.

  • When it opens, choose your company file from the drop-down menu. If it’s not visible to you, select Browse to search your computer’s database for the required file. The file may appear as [your company name].qbw.

  • Then, enter your QuickBooks admin password, and click on Continue. The File Doctor will start repairing your file. It may take some time.

Condition 2: If you see QuickBooks Error 6123 0 while restoring your company file

Step 1: Remove special characters from the file name

The name of your company file must be less than or equal to 30 characters.  Besides, it must not contain any special characters.

Step 2: Restore your company file

If you’re restoring your company file from a backup (.qbb):

To begin, you must move your backup file to the local hard drive. Besides, you must not open it from an online storage folder or a removable drive. Further, you may follow the below given for restoring the backup of your company file:

  • Go to the File menu and click on the option Open or Restore Company in QuickBooks.

  • Select the option Restore a backup copy and click on Next.

  • Click on Local Backup followed by Next.

  • Now, browse your computer for the backup company file. It may appear as [Your company name].qbb.

  • Then, select the folder where you want to save your restored company file.

  • Click on Open.

Note: Ensure that you don’t open the backup data in the same folder as your existing company file. Else you will end up overwriting your data. To avoid this, rename your existing or the backup company file uniquely. You may save the backup in a separate folder.

  • When ready, select Save. If any message appears that shows the possibility of overwriting your data, choose the option that best fits your needs. You must not overwrite anything unless required.

Condition 3: If you see Error -6123, 0 while restoring a backup (.qbb) on a new computer

  • You must create a portable company file (.qbm) and use it for restoring your company file.

  • Then, open QuickBooks Desktop on the same computer as the one you used to create the company file backup.

  • Open your original company file and create a portable copy of it.

  • After that, open QuickBooks Desktop on the new computer.

  • Lastly, restore your company file by using the portable copy (.qbm) instead of the backup.
