MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is one of the earliest channels for sharing videos, pictures and audio clips. Even though one can do that using multiple apps now, Android devices continue to offer this service through a built-in messaging app. But according to Android users they are facing an issue as they are unable to download MMS. They report the receipt of error messages such as “Couldn’t download” or “Media file unavailable”. If you are also troubled by the same, here are some solutions that you can try.

Restart the Phone

Most of the issues can be solved by rebooting your device. Restarting the device allows the operating system to reset internal values to their default and fix other such issues. So try by switching off and turning on your device.

Check the Internet Connection

MMS messages need a stable and reliable internet connection to download any file. Naturally, the lack of this will disrupt your message availability. To check your internet connection, simply pull down the notification panel and select between mobile data or Wi-Fi option and try opening websites on your mobile browser.

Turn on Auto-Download MMS

Here is how you can set MMS on auto-download:

  1. Launch the messaging application on the device.
  2. After that, select the vertical ellipsis menu icon on the upper right side of the display.
  3. You should choose the option of Settings.
  4. Later, choose the option of Advanced.
  5. Then switch the toggle of ‘Auto-download MMS’ to enable it.
  6. Turn on the option to auto download the MMS even on roaming.

Remove Data and Cache

You can clear your cache and data using the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Settings option on the mobile.
  2. Thereafter, select the option of Apps.
  3. You should choose the Messenger application through the apps list.
  4. Go to the option of Storage and select it.
  5. Now, you will view the respective choices clear cache and clear data.
  6. Select both one by one.
  7. Finally, shut the Settings and attempt downloading the MMS once more.

Run a Factory Reset

You can run a factory reset on your phone through the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Settings option on the mobile.
  2. Thereafter, select the System section.
  3. In case you have not already backed up the data, select the option of ‘Backup your data’ to store the data on Google Drive.
  4. Then go to the Reset section.
  5. Now, select the option of Reset Phone.

If you are still facing issues while downloading the MMS, you can try switching your default app and try something else. Hopefully, the above fixes will help you resolve the issue.
