IP Code means Ingress Protection Rating, while in many places, it is also known as International Protection Rating. This two-letter rating sets the security standard for your device. It has two numerical digits after two alphabets that indicate the standard of the device’s security standard. IEC, i.e., International Electrotechnical Commission, defines the IP rating. This rating indicates the safety of solid objects (including body parts such as hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and device provided against electricity and water.
Now, let me tell you the numbers given next to him. IEC defines claims of the device being dust and water blockage by companies in ratings and gives it points out of 10. That is why you must have seen those digits like 52, 67, or 68 are used after IP.
The first digit shows the dust blocker capability of the device. The second digit indicates the water obstruction capacity. For example, if we talk about IP67. It means that only 6 marks out of 10 have been given to a device by IEC for dust barrier capacity. Similarly, the second digit 7 means that IEC has given 7 out of 10 marks to that device for water obstruction capacity.
Sometimes you may have noticed that some devices have X written after IP and then have a digit. Now, what do you think of it? Let’s take IPX7, for example. This means that the device is a water blocker but not a dust blocker. Here X means 0 points. Similarly, if a device has got IP6X, it means that it has a dust barrier and not water.
Now the question is, what is the meaning of the rising numbers. Why is someone given 5, someone 6, while someone 7?
The larger digit being used with IP means a more capable device. First of all, we should know about the first digit, i.e., dust or dust rating. In many phones, you must have seen that the device comes with an IP52 rating while many with IP67. IP5 means that the device is capable of handling a minimal amount of dust. It can be damaged due to excessive dust. Similarly, IP6 means that the device is completely protected from dust. It will not be get affected by dust.
Here we take the example of IP52, IP67, and IP68. If your phone or device has a rating of IP52, it means it can handle only splashes of water with a little bit of dust. That also up to 15 degrees. It has a water rating of 2, which is very low. If there is a little bit of water splashing from the front, it will survive, but if the water is directly in the slot from the top, then it may get spoiled.
Similarly, if your phone has an IP67 rating, it means that it is completely protected from dust and can stay in one meter of water for 30 minutes. If you go under high pressure, it can get worse. The water rating here is 7, which is good.
When it comes to IP IP68, the dust capacity remains the same. It is entirely safe from dust, but 8 ratings further increase the capacity of water. IP68 rated phone can stay in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. There is also an increase in the ability to withstand pressure with depth.
