Apple has always been focused and dedicated to providing one of the finest electronic devices, online services, and computer softwares in the market. Apple is among the top 5 biggest information technology firms globally. One of those quality electronic devices was the first-generation iPad. Apple launched the first iPad almost a decade ago and was undoubtedly a successful product. After the iPad’s success, it started to penetrate the market even more with its upgraded siblings.

Samsung galaxy tab family was the only rival for iPad but failed to attract consumers. After a decade, the iPad did not lose the charm, and the eighth generation iPad is the latest model and still hustling.

Specifications of the First-Generation iPad

The first-gen iPad was introduced as a tablet computer, designed and marketed by Apple Inc. This device started to replace the laptops as it is highly concealable and portable as compared to other electronic devices such as laptops and computers. The device appeared in the market with the Apple A4 Soc, 9.7″ LED-backlit touch screen display, and other features like accessing cellular networks. The iPad was loaded with iOS and can play music, exchange emails, and can surf the internet. Along with these features, it could run games, a GPS navigation system, and social networking sites.

The first-generation iPad’s basic model included 16GB storage, 256 MB RAM, 1024* 768-pixel display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It had wifi connectivity, multiple sensors (ambient and proximity light sensors, digital compass, accelerometer, multi-touch finger sensitive screen) powered by a Li-ion rechargeable battery. The first-generation iPad was able to make use of online services such as Appstore, iTunes Store, and iCloud, which require internet accessibility.

For that time, the first-generation iPad was quite an advanced and unique electronic device.

Cost comparison of the iPad

The very first iPad was first launched in 2010 and was priced at $499. Consumers could buy the first-generation iPad’s sibling models with 32GB storage and 64GB storage for $599 and $699, respectively. Apple also provided the consumers with Wi-Fi + 3G models in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB for $629, $729 and $829 respectively.

The latest 8th generation iPad is going out in the market for $329 for the basic model, 32GB storage, and lacks cellular data options. The 128GB variant with wifi only features available for $429 in the market. The 8th generation iPad has a sibling with wifi + cellular data options, and the 32GB and 128GB are available for $459 and $559, respectively.

Advantages of owning one

The iPad is a portable computer tablet. It is like roaming around with a portable computer system that can do anything for you anytime you wish. You can check emails, compose emails, play music, watch videos. Besides, the iPad can run softwares used that can only be operated on a computer. You can use social media sites to engage and connect with people. Having a larger screen allows the user to edit documents easily.

The iPad is lighter than typical laptops, making them highly portable. The computer softwares do not need to optimize itself for working in a Smartphone as the iPad has a large screen and can operate pretty much like a computer.

Competitors

Archos tablet: It is a France-based multinational electronic company. It introduced an android operating system-based tablet before 2010. But the iPad took over as the iPad’s operating system is different and much more sophisticated than that of Archos. Archos 5 and Archos 7 were discontinued because consumers could enjoy electronic luxury by using the iPad and not the Archos media tablet having a similar price range.

Cisco Cius: It is a business-oriented tablet using android 2.2 as the primary operating system. However, it had all the features a tablet should have, but sophistication and elegance were introduced with the first-generation iPad launch. Consumers were attracted more towards the first-generation iPad, and Cisco Cius’s sales were brought down after the iPad’s release in 2010.

Hp windows slate: The slate was launched in October 2010 and was quite a competition for iPad in the starting, but with time, consumers were opting for iPad due to the price difference between the two products, and the delivery of results was considered better in the iPad.
