FIX: SOUND PROBLEMS IN WINDOWS 10

Heavy PC games or sometimes streaming a movie can create sound problems in your system. Issues can grow from within Windows 10 or any other third-party sources. There are some fixes to the same, which will be discussed below, beginning with the easy tricks to a more complex ones if the sound doesn’t fix.

Check for Basic Fixes

Sometimes it gets too frustrating when you go head over heels to fix something that is not working, but later, you realise it was just about a basic thing to be fixed.

1. Check your basic fixes first- for example, check if your microphone is on mute or your Pc’s volume is low. If there are controls on your keyboard, check for the same.
2. Check the speaker button on the taskbar if its volume is down. In case it is, click on the speaker button and move the slider to the left to increase the volume.
3. Also, check for your speakers if they have a volume button, or it might have been unplugged before, and you forgot to re-connect them later.
4. Another basic fix is to check if the application you’re working on or the game you’ve launched doesn’t have any sound problems.

Below listed are the ways to fix a sound from basic to complex methods:

Verify the Audio Devices

Sometimes, you connect different devices on different days and forget to detach them later. Check for all the audio devices connected earlier. Sometimes you might switch to one particular device, but due to piling up of a lot of other devices, the sound doesn’t play.

1. Speaker icon on the Taskbar
2. Click on the ‘speaker’ icon on the taskbar next to the clock icon, and you’ll see a list of devices. Tap on ‘Select Playback Device’ and choose a different device until your sound starts playing.
3. If this doesn’t work, look for the “Troubleshooter” mode.

Via Control Panel

1. In the search bar of the windows 10, search for ‘Control Panel’ and tap.
2. The main control panel window will appear, select ‘Hardware and Sound’ and then sound from the next available options.
3. A Sound pop-up window will appear. Your sound device must be set at ‘Default.’ If not, click on the ‘Set Default’ button and then ‘OK.’

Troubleshooter Method

Potential fixes are made by Windows 10 with the help of the ‘Troubleshooter’ mode. To run the troubleshooter:

1. Search for ‘Audio’ in the search menu on the taskbar,
2. Click on “Find and Fix Problems with Playing Sound.”
3. Control Panel will open the Troubleshooter window.
4. Click on the device you want to perform Troubleshoot with and tap ‘Next.’
5. Windows 10 will update you about the issues occurring for you to fix.

Reboot audio devices

Search for ‘Services’ in the search menu on the taskbar. Restart three services from the services window:

1. Windows Audio
2. Remote Procedure Call
3. Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
4. For every service, right-click to open the menu and ‘Restart.’

Turn the Enhancements Off

To turn off the Audio Enhancements:

1. Open the Control panel by searching in the search menu on taskbar.
2. Select sound from the ‘Hardware and Sound’ tab.
3. Select the listed audio device and right-click to select ‘properties’ from the drop- down menu.
4. Select ‘Enhancements’ from the properties pop-up window and click on “Disable all Sound Effects.”
5. Tap ‘OK.’
6. In case this method doesn’t work. Make sure your audio device is set to default.

Changing Audio Format

For changing the audio format:

1. Open ‘Control Panel’ from the search menu in the taskbar.
2. Select sound from the ‘Hardware and Sound’ tab.
3. Select the listed audio device and right-click to select ‘properties’ from the drop- down menu.
4. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab from the properties pop-up window.
5. Another drop-down menu appears in the ‘Default Format’ section.
6. To check if a different format works, select a different format and tap ‘Test.’
7. Click on the ‘Apply’ button if it works and then ‘Ok’ for the confirmation.

Updating Driver

To begin to set the device manager:

1. Click on the ‘Start’ button and select ‘Device Manager’ from the pop-up window.
2. Expand the ‘Sound, Video, and Game Controllers’ list.
3. Right-click on your device for a pop-up window to open.
4. Click on the ‘Update Driver’ option.
5. In the next window, tap on ‘Select Automatically for Update Driver Window.’
6. Click the ‘Next’ button to finish.

Uninstall and Reinstall your Audio Device

1. Remove the audio devices from your Windows 10.
2. Go to ‘Device Manager’ menu from the start button.
3. Expand the ‘Sound, Video, and Game Controllers’ list.
4. Right-click on your device for a pop-up window to open.
5. Click on the ‘Uninstall Device’ option.
6. Windows 10 will automatically reinstall audio devices once the ‘Reboot’ is done.

System Restoring

If all of the above methods to fix your sound fails, this is the last step to get through to fix the problem.

1. Search ‘Restore’ in the taskbar menu and tap ‘Create a Restore Point.’
2. In the properties window, click the ‘System Restore’ button.
3. In the next appearing window, tap on ‘Next’ to continue.
4. Select the ‘Restore Point’ when the sound issues began with the help of the dates mentioned. Click ‘Next’ to proceed.
5. Tap ‘Finish’ to continue your pc to restore.
