Google Messages is one of the most popular messaging apps used on Android smartphones that also comes as a default app in a lot of devices. The application sure has a clean user interface and has become the top priority of Android users. Many of you must be aware of the Google Messages app introduced in Xiaomi phones and ditching their messaging app.

If you’re a Google Messages app user, here’s great news for you! The company is working on bringing out a new feature that isn’t available with any messaging apps yet. One Time Passwords (OTPs) are a very common authentication method these days that is used along with almost every sign up you go through. Whenever you sign up with a new website or an application, you’re sent a numerical code on either your email or the messages app using your phone number. You’re required to enter the code on the respective website or app for authentication, leading you to a successful sign-up.

If you go through your Google Messages, you’ll see your inbox stacked with OTPs. Therefore, one needs to delete all of them once in a while to clear up some space and unnecessary OTPs that are valid for a few minutes and aren’t required any further. These OTPs live for a day, a few hours, or a few minutes, which depicts their temporary nature. Thus, according to the XDA developers, Google will soon bring out a feature focusing on the deletion of these OTP messages after 24 hours. It also means that deleting unwanted OTP messages will no more be a pain for you. Also, the word is that when the feature goes live, the user can choose to enable or disable the same from the settings app of the phone.

If you’re one of those people who forget clearing up such OTP messages once they’re used, the feature is going to be a real treasure for you. Some OEMs like OnePlus have a separate OTP category in their message box, so you don’t have to locate each message and delete it. Instead, you can remove the OTP messages in one go. Even though having a separate category doesn’t clutter your main message box, the messages in the other section are still taking a lot of space that is important to delete.

There is no definite release date for rolling out of the new feature. However, you’ll be given regular updates about the same. If Google gets successful in introducing what they’ve been aiming for, we can expect other companies to get a similar feature for other devices as well. Also, if you’re keen to try the new feature before anyone else, you may enroll yourself for the app’s beta program.
