The trailer can be viewed on YouTube, and it has created quite a buzz ever since its arrival on October the 15th, 2020. The series is a result of a rare partnership between HBO and British Broadcasting Corporation, and after its successful run of Season 1, the series is all set to debut its second season on November the 16th.  However, only one trailer has been unveiled up until now, and it is available for view on YouTube.

Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy is right up there in the highest echelons of the best books ever written in a fantasy genre. But why should you be hyped for it? Because the second book in the series titled “The Subtle Knife” was regarded by many as the best-written story of the trilogy and Season 2 of the television show will be adapted from that book, so if you have read the book, you should be excited for Season 2.

If you have got a chance to see the trailer, you must have seen glimpses of the Spectres (black ink monsters) which will be seen for the first time in a television series. The bewitching looking black ink monsters were the most enthralling part of the book, and now fans are eagerly waiting to see how it will be showcased in a TV series.

Just to give you an idea, Spectres are soul-sucking creatures in the books which feed on adults but leave children alone. Since there was no television inspiration for the character, the creators were relying heavily on the interpretation of graphic designers, which of course might be very different to what fans are expecting and might even disappoint them. And they have.

Fans are not at all pleased with what they have seen of Spectres in the trailer; however, we are only talking about a few seconds long glimpses, and the CGI might be better than this when we see the series. Following the footsteps of Sonic: The Hedgehog, they might even tweak things if fans’ disapproval persists for a long time.

The title “Subtle Knife” was actually in reference to a magical knife that cuts space and time apart, and it is used in the books to access other realities. The story revolving around Will and that Knife was splendidly written in the books, and it will be tricky for the TV writers to recreate that same grandeur that had cast the readers with an enigmatic spell.

If you had complaints regarding the slow narrative of Season 1, sweat no more. If the creators stay true to the plot points of the “Subtle Knife,” the story will grace along in such a searing pace that it will make you sometimes struggle to be in tune with everything (but that’s a good thing). If we are cutting right to the chase, the book “Subtle Knife” featured three narratives and among which Will and Lyra’s story arc was the focal point of everything.

It’s highly likely that Season 2 will stay close to the second book because the trailer showcased the three narratives in a perfectly chronological order.
