Based on Toyota‘s new global architecture, the Corolla Hatchback and Corolla Touring Sports are now rolling off the assembly line at the automaker's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire. Although some parts are from other continents, the 1.8-liter engine in the minor hybrid option was provided by Toyota Deeside in North Wales. The other option is a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.0 liter engine. Both options will be available from the commercial launch in February 2019.
Corolla Hatchback, together with Corolla Touring Sports, share the TNGA GA-C vehicle architecture with the C-HR and the Prius. These foundations result in a lower center of gravity, higher torsional stiffness and the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense.
TNGA also works wonders in terms of packaging, allowing for more spacious cabin and cargo space than the previous generation Corolla. Over time, a hot sedan developed by Gazoo Racing will also go into production.
