The Honda BR-V is widely known to the public as a fuel-efficient low SUV. It was indeed not excessive, because with the provision of 1,500 cc engine with i-VTEC technology and CVT (continuously variable transmission) power transfer typical of Honda’s mix, making this car quite superior in terms of fuel economy. At present the price of the BR-V is still quite competitive with a range of Rp. 248 to Rp. 291 million.

But the challenges found by Honda in marketing the BR-V today are not easy. This car must compete with various competitors in terms of fuel economy.

The Toyota Rush, which is the most popular model in the low SUV class, is no exception. Because with the stock engine dedicated 1500 cc as well, Rush cannot be underestimated for matters of fuel savings.

So, is the BR-V really superior to Rush when it comes to fuel consumption? To answer this, we need to know the results of testing the fuel consumption of the two low SUVs.

In a 2016 Honda BR-V automatic test, this low SUV was noted to be able to produce quite impressive savings. When run on an inner-city route with an average speed of 22 km / h, the BR-V automatic unit is capable of producing savings of 11 km / liter. Whereas on the toll route, the BR-V is able to carve out fuel efficiency reaching 16.5 km / liter.

What about the opponent? A matic transmission rush that was tested in 2018, is known to be able to carve fuel consumption 12 km / liter for routes in the city. Whereas on the toll route, the low pride SUV of PT Toyota Astra Motor is capable of producing savings of 16.4 km / liter.

So in conclusion, the Honda BR-V is more economical than the Toyota Rush. But apparently the difference in savings is fairly thin. Even for fuel consumption on the toll route the difference is very thin.

For your information on testing the fuel consumption of the two low SUVs is done by running the car at a constant speed of 22 km / hour. A fuel-efficient driving style, aka eco driving, is also very much needed to score the best savings.

BR-V and CVT

Honda equipped the BR-V with a 1,500 cc L15Z1 i-VTEC engine. This machine is capable of releasing 118 HP power at 6,600 Rpm and torque reaching 145 Nm at 4,600 Rpm. Rush also uses the same dedicated machine.

The Rush engine coded 2NRVE with Dual VVT-I technology was able to release the highest power reaching 102 HP and torque of 136 Nm. In terms of power supply, the BR-V is superior.

Because unlike the BR-V, Toyota has not yet given CVT technology to its low SUV.
