Working with all your concentration on your PC, when a terrifying blue screen appears on your screen with the message “Bad System Config Info.” It is one of the most common “blue screen of death” errors on Windows 10. Bad System Config Info is a popular bug check error that can be caused due to various reasons. The most popular reasons being faulty hardware, corrupted drivers, faulty Windows system settings, or maybe a missing update. But till the time it is the “Bad System Config Info” error, it is fixable. This post will provide you some of the most common solutions to get rid of that blue screen of death.

Check your RAM and Hard Drive

Any physical damage to the RAM or a misfitted hard drive can be the cause of the bad system config info error. It might seem daunting to look inside and twiddle with the physical components of your PC. But if you can, take a look inside and ensure that your RAM is fitted into the slots and that your hard drive cables are properly connected. If you find any obvious signs of damage or misfitting, then consider replacing it. 

Update or Reinstall Drivers

Running outdated drivers on your PC can often create issues. They can bring up dreadful BSoD errors, such as the Bad System Config Info. To resolve this, you will have to open the Windows Device Manager. To open it, press the Win key and type device manager. Once you are on the Device Manager window, click “Action” followed by “Scan for hardware changes.” Now, click the drop-down icons to check if a yellow exclamation mark symbol appears next to any of the devices. 

If you do find a yellow exclamation mark, then right-click on the misbehaving driver to select “Update driver.” If the issue still prevails, right-click the driver to select the option named “Uninstall device.” This driver will reinstall automatically after reconnecting the device in question or after reinstalling the software.

bcdedit Command

There is a possibility that your system configuration is incorrect or not configured properly, as a result, you are getting the bad system config info error. Additionally, if the RAM, processors cores, or other information have the wrong value, an error message is sure to show up. To resolve this, you will have to enter the Windows 10 Advanced Startup menu. Here is how:

Step 1. Navigate to the Start menu.

Step 2. Click Power.

Step 3. Then, press and hold Shift followed by Restart.

Step 4. Select “Troubleshoot” followed by  “Advanced Options” on the screen that appears.

Step 5. Here, select Command Prompt. It will restart the computer and display the Command Prompt blue screen. 

Step 6. Select the account you wish to continue with.

Step 7. Enter the following commands sequentially in the Command Prompt:

bcdedit/deletevalue {default} numproc

bcdedit/deletevalue {default} truncatememory

Step 8. Now, close the Command Prompt and start the Windows 10 again.

Fix Boot Configuration Data (BCD)

To fix a corrupted BCD file that might be the cause of bad system config info error, you need an installed DVD or a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 10. The Media Creation Tool can also be used if you don’t have a bootable USB drive. Now follow the steps below: 

Step 1. Attach the Windows 10 Installation DVD or flash drive and boot from it.

Step 2. Then, click “next” followed by “Repair your computer.”

Step 3. Click on Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Command Prompt.

Step 4: Enter the following commands sequentially:

 bootrec /repairbcd

 bootrec /osscan

 bootrec /repairmbr 

Finally, close the Command Prompt and restart your PC to check if the issue is resolved. 

System Restore

If the aforementioned methods didn’t help solve the issue, then you can try to take your computer to a previous state in which the problem was non-existent. Before doing so, ensure that you have saved the backup. Here is what to do:

Step 1. Navigate to the Start menu.

Step 2. Search for “Create a restore point”.

Step 3. Select “System Properties” followed by “System Restore” and then hit “Next”.

Step 4. Select the restore point you wish to go back to.

Step 5. Hit “Next”, and wait for the process to finish.
