Setting up an iPhone is nowhere tough, but transferring the previous data or connecting the other Apple devices could be a little tricky for the new users. After getting a new iPhone, some of the users wonder what to do with their Apple Watch. So it’s pretty clear that transferring the Apple Watch data to the iPhone is the first thing that must be done. So if anyone isn’t aware of the procedure, here’s how they can do it.

Prepare to Transfer the Apple Watch to the New iPhone

Users can take the backup of the iPhone to iCloud, but the same thing cannot be done with Apple Watch. It is because the Apple Watch’s backup isn’t actually a backup. Apple Watch carries most of its data from iPhone, and most of that data is already saved to iCloud drive or the iTunes backup.

Apple Watch syncs the app and health data from the iPhone regularly when connected via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The sync process works in the background, so users can’t choose when they want to sync unless they unpair their Apple Watch with an iPhone. To transfer an Apple Watch to the new iPhone, users can try two different ways to prepare.

iCloud and Automatic Setup

After the launch of iOS 12, iPhone automatically moves its backup to Apple Watch to the new iPhone without the repairing-unpairing steps. But to move the Apple Watch to iPhone correctly, users need to remember the following things.

  • Keep the time up to date and enable iCloud Health sync.
  • Take a complete backup of the old iPhone before getting ready to transfer to the new iPhone.

How to Switch Apple Watch to the New iPhone

There are two methods that users can try, and these methods are as follows:

Automatic Setup

  • First, restore the old device backup using iTunes or iCloud backup.
  • Now once the restore data process is done, press Continue when the Apple Watch icon appears on the screen.

Unpair/Repair

  • First, unpair the Apple watch from the old iPhone.
  • Restore the iPhone data using iTunes from the computer or iCloud backup.
  • Once the setup is done, tap on the Watch app to open.
  • Now set up the Apple Watch as new or choose an existing backup.

How to Transfer Apple Watch to New iPhone Without Backup

If you want to set up your iPhone as new, without any previous backup, then you have two available options.

First Option

If anyone doesn’t want the previous health data, they can set up both devices as new. By doing this, the downloaded apps and health data will no longer appear on both devices.

Second Option

If anyone wants to get data to their new iPhone and Apple Watch, then the old device must have iOS 11 or later. In the latest update, users will get a Health toggle switch on the iCloud section that users can activate in Settings>iCloud. If the data is huge, it will take some time to sync in the iPhone, so make sure not to format the old iPhone until the data completely syncs.

If the sync is done, follow the procedure to set up the Apple Watch:

  • Unpair the Apple Watch from the old iPhone.
  • Once the new iPhone setup is done, tap on the Watch app to open.
  • Now start setting up Apple Watch with iPhone.

So this is everything a user must do to set up their iPhone and connect it with Apple Watch.

Conclusion

While restoring the backup in the iPhone device, users must wait for some time. While restoring data from iTunes, users must wait until the data completely restores. However, while restoring data from iCloud, users can use their device because restoration can be done in the background as well. Any data related to Health, routes and Apple Watch apps will automatically sync in Apple Watch.
