Kobo has introduced Elipsa to take on reMarkable. Elipsa has been described as a digital notebook with an eBook store and a glistening screen.

Some devices like reMarkable have been around for a while, and it has enjoyed quite a bit of attention during its tenure in the market, which is now running into its fifth year. So, to compete in the market, Kobo has brought a device named “Elipsa,” which is a brand digital notebook with an E-link-based technology; however, all the market experts agree that it arrived a little late. Yet, it hopes to sell its USP (unique selling point), which is its attractive and native digital book store, a robust feature ideal for reading and jotting notes.

If you look at the device, at first glance, it might seem like a re-iteration of a preceding model called “Kobo Forma.” And akin to Kindle Oasis, it is much easier to hold and carry and could even be used with a solitary hand. However, the 8-inch E-Ink screen of “Kobo Forma ” has been enhanced to a 10.3 inches long screen with an upgraded user interface through an active stylus.

The larger screen enables the user to read all the technical documentation and other materials quite comfortably and especially those sources which cannot be digitally formatted again to make it into a smaller screen. Furthermore, the device also enables the users to give annotation to certain paragraphs, expanding the screen so that a user has sufficient space for markups.

However, there is a certain demerit to the device “Kobo Elipsa” in terms of pixels it offers, which is quite less than Kobo Forma and leaves room for more visible aliasing than the latter. However, the new device also proposes screen specs, which are on the level of the reMarkable 2 tablets, and hence makes the chance of the resolution drop far less serious.

Now, if you put Kobo “Elipsa” and reMarkable 2 in juxtaposition, you would know that the Kobo “Elipsa” beats the latter device in terms of fast page-turning capability, a splendid feature which has been attributed to the 1GB Ram (Random Access Memory) and a robust processor of brand qual-core with 1.8 GHz specification. However, Kobo hasn’t been able to compete with the other capabilities of reMarkable 2, which consists of easily syncing with the nearby desktops, laptops, and other devices. Though Kobo’s “Elipsa” also has a remote syncing feature, this is a little complex to implement and understand as it requires a third-party toolkit and a Dropbox account.

However, the unique selling point of the brand-new product from a company that is also pre-eminent for creating one of the top-rated e-readers has to be an alluring digital library that has a stock that can impress anybody. The digital book store makes you read for research, knowledge, or fun, and you don’t even need any third-party application for reading purposes. However, it would be criminal if we do not mention the self-regulating smart illuminating screen, which makes the user interface much more immersing and attractive. However, creator reMarkable tablets claim that introducing such an illuminating screen would hamper those users who want to have a seamless pen and paper experience.

The device will be up for sale both at the online store and offline vendors from June the 24th of this year.
