Gone Girl (2014)

David Fincher never fails to surprise the audience, and when his name is tagged to a film, you know the weightage it carries to it. Along with being a commercial success, the film has been received well by the critics and has won nominations and awards.

The story is about a married couple, whose wife disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary, and the plot leads with the police trying to find her after the husband registers a complaint. The police later suspect the husband of killing the wife until she is finally discovered.

Another Martin Scorsese film that made it to the list is Shutter Island. Shutter Island is a masterpiece on its own, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kinsley and Michelle Williams, who are no less than perfect in the movie.

The story is about an American Marshal, who along with his partnering officer (Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo) arrive at Shutter Island. They are required to investigate a missing patient.

Memento (2000)

Memento, without any doubt, is Christopher Nolan’s breakthrough film. The themes that he picked up in this film like non-linear narrative, perception, self-deception, grief and memory time have been featured in most of his films.

Guy Pearce, who is the protagonist of the film, suffers from a condition called anterograde amnesia in which he loses his memory every fifteen minutes and is also unable to develop new memories. To cope up with this condition, he takes snapshots, writes notes, and inks his torso with important information. All the movies mentioned in the list are full of unexpected twists and turns and will keep you glued to your seat.
