Gisela Detrell, an Aerospace engineer at the University of Stuttgart in Germany, designed the structure of Martian city and also disclosed how residents could survive with the resources available on Mars.

We have accomplished from stepping on the moon to establishing the Martian city. Not today, but Elon Musk has declared that the city will be ready by the year 2050, and yes, it is a pretty difficult process than imagining.

Just by imagining, it is a pretty fascinating fact that human existence on another planet may be possible. According to Gisela Detrell, due to the unfriendly environment of the red planet, survival depends on various aspects like sustainability, shelter, life support, and infrastructure.

human survival like radiation, availability of oxygen, and food for the residents, who will be living up there. But the efforts do not end here, as scientists are looking for solutions to utilize resources available on Mars, which also includes the location of the city and how many different locations we can prepare to live.

Gisela Detrell, an aerospace engineer, is known as part of the international team of scientists and academics, public-private Sustainable Offworld Network (SONET), and architecture firm ABIBOO Studio, and they surely believe in accomplishing the code. They have also presented the plans to the Mars society to establish Nüwa, which is known as the proposed city for the red planet.

With several Mars missions, now people are waiting for Mars to become new earth.

There are many ongoing Mars missions are happening on Mars such as China’s Tianwen-1 rover mission, Perseverance rover of NASA, and Hope Probe of UAE to discover the evidence of previous existence of life on the red planet along with commercial space travel on the horizon. The next step seems to be the establishment of an experimental city on the red planet, and now I do not think I know what to expect next.

Nüwa, the name is given after the Chinese mythological goddess, who is known for melting colored stones to patch up the sky. The city will be built inside the complete rock face at Tempe Mensa, and there are 1 million residents who will be protected from solar radiation and cosmic damage.

The aerospace engineer Gisela Detrell works for life support systems, which implies the responsibility to make sure that astronauts have proper water, oxygen, and food to survive in the atmosphere of space for future missions. But here, the resources are brought from earth, whereas Nüwa needs extra attention, which seems impossible at the moment.

Gisela Detrell also showed concerns about how residents will need to rely on the resources of Mars with the city’s growth and recycle the used items as much as they can. We need to get more advanced in technology if we are going to produce oxygen, food, water for residents and also close the cycle entirely.

Designing a city on Mars is one thing, but it also raises the question that will make it possible for her to leave everything behind on earth to colonize the human race on Mars. However, Gisela Detrell agrees with the question and said absolutely.

As Gisela Detrell quoted- because it is an adventure. For an aerospace engineer, it is quite exciting to move forward with intelligence. Gisela Detrell also described the fact that establishing a city on the red planet is more than human colonization, it is also about the technology development and usage that will be required during the process, and she wants to be a part of it.
