In 2019, Daihatsu Sigra was listed as the second best-selling Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) in Indonesia after the Honda Brio Satya. Its main advantage is clearly the easiest 7-passenger car in Indonesia today. Daihatsu Sigra is sold from Rp. 118,500,000 to Rp. 161,250,000.

Daihatsu Sigra is the real form of the UFC-3 concept version that was shown to the public in 2014. Finally, the mass version of the concept car was launched at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Siigra is a collaborative project with Toyota that produces its twin, Toyota Calya. .

The car, which is assembled at the Daihatsu factory in Karawang, is actually a development version of the Daihatsu Ayla, the 5-passenger LCGC which is also a collaborative project with Toyota. As a cheap car, of course not many features are embedded. Likewise with the safety features.

At the end of 2019, Daihatsu Sigra underwent a rejuvenation. It looks fresher with a number of cosmetic touches on the exterior and of course additional features. The safety feature is no exception. The following are the security and safety features of Daihatsu Sigra.

1. Side Impact Beam

Even though it was made to target the entry-level class, Daihatsu did not play about the safety of the occupants of Sigra's cabin. The car, whose name is taken from the Sanskrit word for “fast response”, is built on a design called the Total Advance Function.

The front frame is strengthened to withstand impacts from the front. While the side spintu is entirely protected by additional steel called the side impact beam. The transverse iron rods in the recessed door frame help to relieve pressure when the side is subject to impact.

2. Dual SRS Airbags

Another Daihatsu Sigra passive safety feature is the dual SRS airbags. The airbags in the front driver and passenger seats will expand when there is an impact from the front. This device serves to reduce the risk of more serious injury due to the head hitting the steering wheel or dashboard. This feature complements the standard safety features of seat belts with pretensioner and force limiter functions.

3. ABS and EBD brakes

Especially for the X variant and above, Daihatsu also complements the Sigra with safety features ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution). ABS brakes prevent tire slippage during sudden braking. The EBD feature is the latest additional safety feature introduced since the refresh version in 2019. This feature helps reduce braking distance by dividing the weight distribution during deceleration.

4. Front Rear Parking Sensor

This is what is interesting. Usually as an entry-level vehicle, it doesn't have many additional safety features. But Sigra is equipped with a parking sensor. In fact, in certain types there is a front parking sensor.

5. Immobilizer key

Finally, to support the safety of the car when it is left behind, a key with the immobiizer function is available. This feature is able to reduce the risk of being stolen because the car cannot be started without the original key being detected near the vehicle.

In conclusion, even though the Daihatsu Sigra is an affordable 7-passenger car, it still optimally protects all occupants of the cabin. All of that can be redeemed at a fairly affordable price.
